Drive Thru Evangelism – The case of the old bait and switch

Drive Thru Evangelism – The case of the old bait and switch 2011-10-06T10:48:31-07:00

I wonder if you have any thoughts on this video?

My thoughts:

1) Tracts, in themselves, are terrible representations of the Gospel and make Christians look silly.

2) Tracts tend to focus on “getting a soul saved” with the assumption that hell, damnation, and rapture are imminent. This is dualist at best, and escapist at worst.

3) The people behind them probably will be excited to have a meal paid for… I think paying for a meal is a wonderful thing to do… but, the bait and switch makes us appear like we have an agenda. Our only agenda, in this post-Christendom culture, should be to get to know people that aren’t Christians relationally. Get into their lives and allow them into ours! And maybe, just maybe, as they watch our lives they will want to follow the same Jesus that we’ve shown and told them about. All in the context of real life friendship… not bait and switch with over simplistic and misleading tracts.

4) I have a feeling that this girl’s motives are good, but she’s been conditioned in some form of conservative fundamentalism.

I’d love to hear your thoughts! Please, keep the comments kind in nature. Lets talk about the methods of evangelism, NOT mock the person in the video.
