Struggling Against Oppression: Why the Islamic Slave Revolts of Brazil Never Ended.

(Public Domain) Qu’ranic writings by enslaved Islamic Scholars.

Following the black Muslim slave revolts of Brazil,  Bilal Lictuan, Shaykh Dandaa, Shaikh Sanim,  Malam Bubakar and other organizers were given capital punishment.  This has resulted in many secular historians seeing the Islamic slave revolt of Brazil as a failure. While secular historians can seek to gauge the effectiveness of the battle plans that these black Muslim slave rebels had, they have no methodology by which to measure the effectiveness of their duas. It is dua which in the Islamic tradition is considered the most powerful weapon in the hands of the oppressed. Duas transcends lifetimes.

This khutba will answer the following questions: As black Muslim slaves were on the Middle Passage and being forcibly taken to the Americas:  what duas did they make and what ayats in the Qu’ran did they turn to for strength and courage?  This Khutba will explain the duas made by these slave rebels means that their revolt never ended and how  Safiya Bukhari and Malcolm X worked to keep alive the hope and aspirations of Black Muslim slave rebels who desired a world free of racism alive.  This khutba will further operate under the theological doctrine of white supremacy as shirk  and  encourage listeners to continue the struggle against racial oppression as part of an Islamic duty.

Spiritual lessons taught: Resistance against oppression, the power of dua and perseverance in times of hardship.
