Hibernia Ho!

Hibernia Ho! June 8, 2014

Around the end of June, my mother and I will be travelling to Ireland, and I’d quite appreciate the help of the commentariat in planning the trip.  Here’s where I could use your input:

  1. Recommendations for things to do/places to visit in Ireland – Have you been?  Are there things you think I might accidenatly miss out on?  (One friend has already done a great job pitching me on Kilmainham Gaol).
  2. Recommendations for books by or about the Irish – A few years ago, in preparation for a trip to England, I added a lot of Austen, Chesterton, and Newman to my kindle (plus a guide to sabotage intended for British citizens in the event of  Nazi occupation).  I’d love to do some similar themed reading on this trip (and am going to reread A Wizard Abroad and whatever Brian Friel I have on hand before I ship out).  So what else should I add to my stack?  (Not doing Ulysses at this point, thanks oh so much for asking).
  3. Invitations to speak?  I know I’ve had a few Irish readers of the blog.  I’ll be mostly in Dublin, but I’d like to know (via email) if a parish or a group in the area might be interested in having me in for a Theology on Tap or something.

And now, the song that’s been stuck in my head since we booked the tickets:
