The Yule season is a time for creating. Many people bake holiday treats. Many people flex their creative muscles decorating their homes with the elements of the season. Decemer 5th is known as Krampusnacht for those who are unaware, which means Krampus night. It is then that the “Christmas Devil” is said to appear. In my earlier post about Krampus I wrote: “Krampus is cool. The Nazis hated him, and he has had two appearances on network television this month. He drinks beer and he will beat you into submission if you don’t behave. Sounds like a modern hero to me.” Last night Krampus had his own feature Hollywood film debut, starring one of my favorites, Toni Collette. It appears Krampus has joined the big time.

According to National Geographic the name Krampus ” is from the German word krampen, meaning claw, is said to be the son of Hel in Norse mythology. ” Ironically, or not, my Grandmother’s maiden name was Holburn, which is also said to derive from the Norse meaning Born of Hel. What’s that saying you can choose you’re friends but not your relatives, and it is a bit bizarre to think of Krampus being part of the gang.

Inspired by these events I decided to make my own Krampus craft. Many folks online have made Krampus ornaments and dolls, several are downright creepy. I looked for baby doll heads at the craft store, but they were all out. So feeling a little horny, and in keeping with the theme, I choose to make some Krampus horns.

You can make your own with simple supplies you may have on hand. Except for the glue gun, to make the ridges, you can get all of these things for under $5 total. Affordable enough to make some for the whole family.

headband with paper mache. Let dry completely. I left mine overnight.

Step Four: Cover with another layer of glue or paper mache to smooth it out. I used one layer plus glue, because i feel like demon horns should be a bit bumpy. Let dry.

Step Five: Create rings or ridges on the horns with your glue gun. This could be optional if desired. Let dry.

Step Six: Paint with black paint. You could also use red for highlights if you like. Let dry. Repaint.

Next Step: Wear ad enjoy!

Happy Krampusnacht or Grub Vom Krampus as they say! Remember to share this post, and if you make these I’d love to see a photo, please post it below.
