Day 53 of 90: Moksha Yoga, For Courage

Day 53 of 90: Moksha Yoga, For Courage September 1, 2013

Day 53 of 90 straight days of hot yoga at Moksha Yoga LA and I entered today’s practice with the intention of giving myself a gift. I spoke today and so afterwards it feels great to do yoga and let go.  There is no better  gift I can think of than taking the YIN class at Moksha.  A restorative practice and especially going everyday now, it helps to just chill.  I never know what will flow from me on this blog each day, I do the practice and on my walk home, things come up, and by the time I start to write, none of the things I thought about on the walk home come out in the blog. Funny.

I love teacher Emily and feel blessed she decided to follow her heart and come to LA.  At the end of class she shared this beautiful poem, called “FOR COURAGE” by John O’ Donohue. I felt like it was good to share.  Because you may feel fear coming up about something and we all need courage sometimes. It has taken me courage to share this journey with you, it is taking courage for me to go 90 days, and then open my life up to you. As I do that I understand that I am opening up to every thing that may come, criticism’s, judgement’s, or support.  But I have decided to stay open in my heart no matter what is happening, and never close down again.  I closed down for a couple years, and frankly it stinks.  I crawled up in a shell of guilt and shame, and it hurt. So no more. Stay open no matter what.  So thank you for reading this blog, and cheering me on at Moksha, or sending me a kind email of support.  So now I am going to enjoy my Black Chia from Clover. Enjoy your day as I move into day 54…Namaste

For Courage

When the light around you lessens
And your thoughts darken until
Your body feels fear turn
Cold as a stone inside

When you find yourself bereft
Of any belief in yourself
And all you unknowingly
Leaned on has fallen

When one voice commands
Your whole heart,
And it is raven dark,

Steady yourself and see
That is is your own thinking
That darkens your world

Search and you will find
A diamond-thought of light,

Know that you are not alone
And that this darkness has purpose
Gradually it will school your eyes
To find the one gift your life requires
Hidden within this night-corner.

Invoke the learning
Of every suffering
You have suffered.

Close your eyes
Gather all the kindling
About your heart
To create one spark.
That is all you need
To nourish the flame
That will cleanse the dark
Of its weight of festered fear.

A new confidence will come alive
To urge you towards higher ground
Where your imagination
Will learn to engage difficulty
As its most rewarding threshold!
