It’s Presidents Day here in the U.S., and I’m on holiday. That means I get to do “honey-do’s” while the rest of the family goes and watches a matinee. But before I light into the list of chores I’ve been given, I wanted to share this gem I uncovered on the HHS Mandate. I’m a history buff, see? The photograph above is of the crew of the USS Pueblo. Remember the Pueblo Incident? She was boarded by the North Koreans... Read more

Looking at the map above, I recall the whole Blue State/Red State trope here in the U.S., but with a twist: if you live in a Blue State in the map above, you are facing extinction. But it doesn’t have to be that way. I almost titled this post, “The Myth of Overpopulation,” but I didn’t because I think the word myth would have been used improperly if I did. Checking the Merriam-Webster dictionary, I find the following definitions for... Read more

But we also have to lead them by example. Sheep leading the shepherds? Bear with me a minute. The other day, I wrote a post on why we should fight the HHS Mandate. Today, I return to that theme, and expand upon it while clearly sharing the not so earth shattering information that many Catholics in the pews do not care one iota for what the Bishops say about contraception, much less the HHS Mandate. They’re right here, folks. Did you have any friends, relatives, or acquaintances plaster the photograph from Planned Parenthood claiming no women testified to Congress on the HHS Mandate on their Facebook walls? Or how about Planned Parenthood’s President Cecile Richards’ statement chastising Congress for not allowing “a single woman” to testify? I know I did. But the truth is, a picture isn’t always worth a thousand words. Because the fact that several women did testify to Congressman Issa’s panel was... Read more

And it’s cooking along at 1,431 signatures at last count (@15:45 EST), which is close to the maximum for this particular airframe. Have you signed it yet? Please do, because the crew would really like to transition to the next level of aircraft as soon as possible. (more…) Read more

Where? Thomas Aquinas College in California. When? You guessed it: on the feast of Saint Paul of the Shipwreck. Isn’t that a beautiful campus? As Mr. Hewitt notes, I arranged this date last year after a quick visit to the campus on Memorial Day Weekend 2011.  It is a beautiful place with a unique “Great Books” curriculum, and it is a thoroughly tradition Roman Catholic institution. Should Catholics fight the HHS Mandate, and the other moves by the Administration that seek to remove Catholics from the public square? Absolutely. Should we do so only because this issue is a matter of principle? Well, not just for any principles, but for first principles. For God-given principles, and God-given freedoms. (more…) Read more

My Chinese Catholic friend, John C.H. Wu wrote several works that I have enjoyed reading over the past several years. I’ve shared posts with you from several of his books, namely Beyond East and West, The Science of Love, and Interior Carmel, the Threefold Way of Love. It is not for nothing that Frank Sheed called John “the Chinese Chesterton.” (more…) Read more
