Sarah Palin: “Waterboarding Is How We Baptize Terrorists” April 28, 2014

At Christmas last year I had the great privilege of baptizing my daughter.

It was a deeply meaningful and powerful moment for me and my family.

As it is for countless other disciples of Jesus.

Except Sarah Palin, apparently.

After nearly 7 minutes of regurgitating a barely coherent string of cliche one liners lifted directly from Facebook memes, she tossed out this utterly offensive metaphor to a recent meeting of the NRA in Indianapolis,

“Come on. Enemies, who would utterly annihilate America, they who’d obviously have information on plots, to carry out Jihad. Oh, but you can’t offend them, can’t make them feel uncomfortable, not even a smidgen,” she said. “Well, if I were in charge, they would know that waterboarding is how we’d baptize terrorists.”

There are no words to describe how repugnant I find that comparison to be.

And it’s not because Sarah Palin said it.

It’s because the holy sacrament of baptism was frivolously used as a metaphor to justify the unholy torture of human beings.

Unbelievable.

Anyway, if you can stomach it or just need to hear it with your own ears to believe it, here’s the video of her speech to the NRA. The abominable metaphor starts around the 6:50 mark.
