The war on cops continues as two Iowa police officers ambushed and executed November 3, 2016

Not since 1977 has an officer been shot and killed in the line of duty in Des Moines, Iowa. But sadly in the early morning hours on Wednesday, two officers were gunned down just twenty minutes apart in ambush-style executions as they sat in their parked cruisers.

Details of the attacks were documented by The Washington Post:

The first shooting occurred at 1:06 a.m. when an officer in Urbandale, which is part of metropolitan Des Moines, responded to a report of shots fired, Sgt. Paul Parizek, a spokesman for Des Moines police, told The Washington Post. The officer was shot while sitting alone in his patrol car at 70th Street and Aurora Ave., next to Urbandale High School. He was pronounced dead on the scene, Parizek said.

About 20 minutes later, Des Moines police officers responding to the shooting of the first officer came across a patrol car at Merle Hay Rd. and Sheridan Dr., an intersection about two miles away, where they found another officer with a gunshot wound, according to Parizek. The officer, who was among those responding, was transported to the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, where he too was pronounced dead.

Sgt. Parizek believes the gunman had no interaction with these officers before he pulled the trigger. Because of these incidents, officers have been paired up so that no officers are alone while on patrol.

“There’s literally a clear and present danger if you’re a police officer,” the sergeant said.

A white male suspect, identified as 46-year-old Scott Michael Greene, is now in custody. He was captured a couple of hours after the back-to-back murders walking alone on a road in nearby Dallas County. According to Heavy.com, the suspect had a run-in with officers at a football game at Urbandale High School, where the first victim was found, two weeks ago. He filmed the encounter and posted it on his Facebook page. Apparently, he was holding an American and a Confederate flag during the national anthem at a football game and caused a disturbance. Urbandale officers escorted him off the premises, but he accused them of “assaulting” him. His comment attached to the post explained his protest: “I was offended by the blacks sitting through our anthem. Thousands more whites fought and died for their freedom. However this is not about the Armed forces, they are cop haters.” It’s clear he turned into a cop hater after this incident.

Just four months ago in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a police officer was ambushed while he was on duty inside his patrol car. He was shot multiple times, but incredibly, he survived. That happened on the same day three Baton Rouge police officers were gunned down by three cop-hating thugs.

And this is why Blue Lives Matter. Listen to what Sgt. Parizek said after these latest killings:

“I don’t even know where to begin on how bad this year is [but] this is what we do. We come in day in and day out, we go out there and provide the same level of service regardless of what’s going on in our personal and professional lives.”

The current atmosphere in this country, with foundations laid by the Black Lives Matter movement, has made it more dangerous than ever to be a law enforcement officer in America. This is an all-out war on cops, and our brave men and women know it. But still, they show up to work every day ready to protect and serve their communities, even those that hate them.

However, as bad as it is, I see the tide changing as more and more people are standing up and declaring Blue Lives Matter.
