Nicole Kidman v. Meryl Streep: ‘We as a country need to support’ Donald Trump

Nicole Kidman v. Meryl Streep: ‘We as a country need to support’ Donald Trump January 12, 2017

Love this!  Actress Nicole Kidman talked to BBC 2’s Victoria Derbyshire about her new film, but the interview veered a bit into politics.

What she said is a nice juxtaposition to what her Hollywood pal Meryl Streep said at the Golden Globes.  As you might remember, Streep used her moment in the spotlight to draw attention to the fact that Hollywood sticks up for the bullied and the innocent.  (Roman Polanski was not in the country to comment.)  But Nicole Kidman, who is originally from Australia but is a citizen of both her home country and her adopted country of the USA, struck a much different tone:

… the star says, “I just say, now elected, and we as a country need to support whoever’s the president because that’s what the country’s based on.”

She notes, though, “I’m always reticent to start commenting politically, I’ve never done it in terms of America or Australia. I’m issue based. I’m very, very committed to women’s issues.”

I love that.  So sick of the sanctimony of Hollywood demonstrated by someone like Streep who seems hell-bent on Trump failing before he even steps foot in the Oval Office.

He was elected President, now let’s get behind him as a nation and unite!
