Top 7 Bible Verses About Adam And Eve

Top 7 Bible Verses About Adam And Eve May 22, 2016

Here are seven Bible verses relating to Adam and Eve.

Genesis 1:27 “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

This is why murder is such a horrific crime. We are all made in the image of God and God, being the Author of Life (Acts 3:15), only He can take a life. Since we are all created in His own image, we should treat one another as such. We don’t treat the poor or the unsaved any differently than we do our family and friends. We have no respect for one person over another. All men and women should be shown respect and treated with dignity.

Genesis 2:18 “The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”

Ask anyone who is lonely. It isn’t good to be alone. We are created for relationships. We need to be loved but we also have the need to give love to others. It’s hard to do good to someone when you’re alone. Solomon, in writing about relationships, wrote “And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken” (Eccl 4:12). If the two are a couple, the threefold cord is God, and that cord can hold a marriage together when others are falling apart all around them.

Genesis 2:22 “Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.”

When God formed man of the dust of the ground, the next human creation would have a part of Adam in it…or her, to be specific, as in Eve. This explains why Adam said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man” (Gen 2:23). No truer words were ever spoken by Adam.

Genesis 2:24 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

God is being very specific about Adam and Eve’s relationship, but now it appears that God is speaking to later generations. Adam and Eve didn’t have human parents so Adam and Eve had no problem leaving their father and mother, so we must reason that this verse is written for those who would come later. In-law interference is one of the reasons that many marriages fail. Is this why God said “a man shall leave his father and his mother” because he and she should be leaving his and her family, and creating a new family, and leaving them out of the couple’s relationship in their marriage. He is to hold fast to his wife, not his parents, and same for her, and the two become one flesh or as one new, complete family.

Genesis 3:4-5 “You will not surely die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Here is Satan twisting Scripture and trying to get Eve to doubt God’s Word. That’s still happening today by those who say “Are you sure that’s what God said? I see it this way….” Or “God is trying to keep you from having fun and enjoying life…” but that too is a tactic of the Devil; instant gratification over long-term gain. No, some teach that there is no hell (“You will not surely die”) or that it’s annihilation and it’ll be over, just like that, but that is contrary to biblical doctrine (Rev 20:12-15; 21:8).

Genesis 3:6 “When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.”

After Adam and Eve had disobeyed God, “the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves” (Gen 3:7). It wasn’t long after that they hid from God, as it says, “Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the Lord God among the trees of the garden” (Gen 3:8) and Adam said, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid” (Gen 3:10). The only problem is, no one can hide from God. The author of Hebrews wrote, “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Heb 4:13).

Genesis 3:21 “The Lord God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them.”

The garments made of animal skins points forward to the covering of sins and required the shed blood for the forgiveness of sins…and the only one acceptable to God was Jesus Christ. Animal sacrifices only covered sins. They never took them away permanently because they had to repeat them over and over again, otherwise they’d stop the sacrifices. Jesus once-and-for-all supreme sacrifice is sufficient for all and efficient for some (whoever believes). Then, “the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken” (Gen 3:23-24) and he drove them out (Gen 3:25).

Conclusion

The account of Adam and Eve in Genesis gives us a great deal to learn. There are consequences for our actions. If we choose to sin, we choose to suffer. We reap what we sow, even if it’s much later than we sow. The bad news first is “For as in Adam all die” but the good news is “so also in Christ shall all be made alive” (1st Cor 15:22) and “Thus it is written, “The first man Adam became a living being”; the last Adam became a life-giving spirit” (1st Cor 15:45).
