Tears of the Mother

Tears of the Mother March 24, 2011

Living in California usually means that we don’t get traditional seasons and often times we wear layers of clothing regardless of the time of year.  The last month we have been watching as hordes of rain come down on the streets of the Bay Area; flooding cities and being harsh in its path of release.

I have heard so many people recently ask when the rain is going to stop, me included.  The continuous rain appears to be lasting for so long that it is almost hard to adjust, spring does not feel like spring right now.  And then the thought occurred to me…… I think the Mother is cleansing us of all the incredible hardship and sadness from the past year.

Times have been incredibly hard and many are struggling in this failed economy, lack of resources, unemployment, housing issues and a general sense of concern over what looks like the extinguished light at the end of the tunnel is missing.  Is it possible that Yemaya is washing away the filth of self created sadness that we as a people have created and are now suffering within.  Maybe Yemaya is crying for the release of our chains that keep her children tied to limited beliefs and misunderstood power.

I would like to think that it is a chance right now to reflect on what we are attempting to walk through, both in our communities and within our selves, in a time that seems to be so riddled with concern of survival.

I remember one time, while I was working in a outpatient adult alcohol and drug treatment, that a guy referred to the 12-steps as “brainwashing”.  And another client responded that “some times we need to have our brains washed”.  That is how I feel right now, I know cleansing is needed so that we may advance to the healing.

Wash away the dirt Yemaya, so that we may build from a place of gratitude and invest in the concept of spiritual solidarity with our brothers and sisters.  Be gentle with us Yemaya, for we are learning how to take care of ourselves, honor ourselves and give honor to you in the process.  We are but children Yemaya, learning to grow into more enlightened beings who can carry the vision of the Gods but we are young in our collective understanding of our own power.  We are learning Yemaya; we may not be where we need to be but we are growing and learning through the lessons we are living through and beyond.  We are grateful Yemaya, for we are reminded with Katrina and Japan with what the power of the water can do.  And with this we give offering, we kneel in honor and we give thanks.

Blessed Be.
