The temple of America

The temple of America December 22, 2008

The security guard who was trampled to death on Black Friday at a Long Island Wal-Mart should not be forgotten. In fact, blogger Steve over at “Thy Grace is Sufficient” has an amazing post on “The Wal-Mart Death on all of us.”

Steve says, “Mr. Damour is dead, because, well, we need to have our stuff….he was crushed under the weight of their greed, lust for consumption, and lack of concern for others. Crushed by our sick culture, one that values material things over souls.” He was a “casualty of the American way of life.”

Steve calls the mall the “Temple of America.”
He says that greed and consumption should be of even greater concern to the church than even gay marriage and God in schools. That’s bold stuff, but worth discussion.

And then come back here and let us know what you think about consumption. How can Red Letter Believers, those who hear and live out the words of Christ, get a better grip on “stuff?” What can we do to stop this crazy train? What have you done to simplify this Christmas? Comment here
