Christians and the Environment? (Creation Care)

Hey! Have you heard? The polar ice caps are melting! We’re all going to drown!!

Oh… God already said He wasn’t going to do that again.

But, the “Consumer Driven Church” still gets sucked into phony environmentalism, which has been branded “Creation Care”. Zondervan has published the Green Bible, which teaches us how “creation cares for us”.

That’s Panentheism.

The forward was written by an Anglican priest who says:

“There are certain parts [of the Bible] we need to say no to. The Bible accepted slavery. St. Paul said women should not speak in church at all, and there are people who have used that to say women should not be ordained. There are many things [in the Bible} that you should accept.” – Archbishop Desmond Tutu (From an interview with CNN in 2009 regarding climate change)

So, did Zondervan remove those parts from their Bible?

Rick Warren, along with 100 evangelical leaders and 40 Christian college presidents, called for federal legislation to reduce CO2 emissions, because that’s loving your neighbor. (The Evangelical Environment Network also launched a campaign asking “What would Jesus drive?”) And with God’s help, we can stop global warming for our kids, our world, and for the Lord.

Uhhh… God is the one who cursed creation. He subjected all things to futility because of the sinfulness of man. But, the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God at the return of Jesus.

For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. (Romans 8:19-21)

God has a plan for the fullness of time to unite all things in Christ – things in heaven and on earth. He will wipe away every tear and death shall be no more.

He set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Him, things in heaven and things on earth. (Ephesians 1:10)

 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away. (Revelation 21:4)

But you cannot reverse the effects of creation’s decline.

Consider the work of God: who can straighten what God has made crooked? (Ecclesiastes 7:13)

God told us to have dominion over all creation, to fill the earth and subdue it.

And God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth. (Genesis 1:28)

Now, that includes treasuring our resources and respecting all living creatures. There are verses about that.

Whoever is righteous has regard for the life of his beast, but the mercy of the wicked is cruel.

Whoever will work his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense. (Proverbs 12:10-11)

But the only “global warming” the world needs to be concerned about is the fire of God being stored up for the Day of Judgment and the destruction of the ungodly.

They deliberately overlook this fact, that the heavens existed long ago, and the earth was formed out of water and through water by the word of God, and that by means of these the world that then existed was deluged with water and perished. But the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the Day of Judgment and the destruction of the ungodly. (2 Peter 3:5-7)

Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!
