Photo: Winter Storm Hits Arlington Cemetery Tomb of the Unknown Solider

Winter Storm Jonas has ravaged the East Coast from Washington, D.C. to New York City, shutting down all travel in these major cities.  Most of the D.C. area is buried under more than 2 feet of snow and hurricane strength winds led to blizzard conditions this weekend that forced everyone to stay indoors for most of the weekend.

Well, almost everyone.

At Arlington National Cemetery, however, our nation’s finest carried on a storied and important tradition. The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, also known as The Old Guard, stand watch over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Posting images to their Facebook page, The Old Guard said, “As a record breaking snow storm hits the Washington, D.C. area Sentinels from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) continue to stand guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery, Va. The Tomb Guards maintain a constant vigil at the Tomb no matter the weather conditions.”

How inspiring are these images? In our national cemetery were soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice throughout the centuries are buried, The Old Guard stands guard as the blizzard rolled in with multiple feet of snow and 50 mph winds – all to pay respect to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the thousands who have died for our freedom.
