I went to a talk given by a Catholic exorcist once. When he took the “job”, he was the only one (or one of very few) in America and found it difficult to get information. He talked about having a hard time tracking down the book with the rites he was supposed to use. But that was in America…he joked how when he went to visit the Vatican, he found the book he wanted in the airport book store.

Yeah, the church in America doesn’t like to talk about it all. Odd.

I went to a similar talk- and the exorcist claimed that the majority of cases were simple schizophrenia and easily controlled by proper medication.

Then again, he also claimed that he’d participated in about one case every five years over a 30 year career, where exorcism actually worked.

This is why the Catholic church is very cautious and doesn’t grant an exorcism very easily. I believe a full psychiatric profile is one of the requirements.
