Revelation 3: More Than Fine

Revelation 3: More Than Fine December 5, 2011

15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16 So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17 You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18 I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.” -Revelation 3:15-18

God hates apathy. His message to the Christians at Laodicea was very clear. His desire is for complete devotion.

Genesis tells us people are made in God’s image. At least on this issue, it seems people share God’s attitude. We crave something beyond the ordinary, more than fine, more than okay. When we see a person who claims to walk closely with God and yet lives in immorality or other hypocrisy, it stands as a major source of anger.

Our natural response to such scenarios must in some way resemble how God feels when any of us live inconsistent with our belief that Jesus is God. To know we have eternity in the future and God’s Spirit within us now and not live radically different stands as offensive to our Creator. Today, let us remember that the one who has saved us deserves our full allegiance, not our leftovers. Only then will our lives truly reflect our love for our Lord.
