iPad 3 in March

From Bloomberg:

Apple Inc. (AAPL)’s next iPad, expected to go on sale in March, will sport a high-definition screen, run a faster processor and work with next-generation wireless networks, according to three people familiar with the product.

The company’s manufacturing partners in Asia started ramping up production of the iPad 3 this month and plan to reach full volumes by February, said one of the people, who asked not to be named because the details aren’t public. The tablet will use a quad-core chip, an enhancement that lets users jump more quickly between applications, two of the people said.

    Soooooooo glad I waited and skipped the iPad 2.

    I’ve got an iPad2 and am very happy with it. I won’t be upgrading but might consider buying my wife one.

    The major step from the first iPad to the iPad2 was enough for me to change. I use my iPhone 4S for camera, video, and other applications but my iPad is primarily my writing, reading, and surfing device.

    Looks like a great upgrade. My general procedure on this is to skip every other generation since Apple tends to make minor enhancements and a major shift every other production cycle. I love my iPad.

    YOU MUST UPGRADE!!! The iPad 2 is officially obsolete; Apple said so.

    This is a perfect example of what has become a cancer in Western society. The compulsive need to be constantly buying newer, more expensive versions of things we already own. . . as though we needed the one in the first place.

    @jason smith 5.:

    The iPad 2 was the iPad 1S. The iPad 3 is the real iPad 2. :)

    My husband sat next to a man w/ an iPad2 on his flight back from France a couple of weeks ago, on every measure except internal storage capacity and slightly higher resolution on screen, his Android-based Acer Inova matched or exceeded the iPad2. For half the price. The 2 guys had a dozen hanging out & over their seats watching the function by function comparison. What is the kicker for the Android pads, though, is that ones such as the Acer have a 2-way external USB port. Massimo could take his portable 1TB hard drive, plug it into his pad and work on documents, power point presentations, spreadsheets, etc. Reading, revising and saving, etc. You still won’t have that functionality & versatility w/ the iPad3, I’ve heard… Not to mention Android is open-sourced. :)

    I’m perfectly happy with my $200 Kindle Fire.

    With apps like Dropbox and iCloud thumb drives are entirely obsolete. I’ve held out on both iPads do far and am mightily looking forward to the iPad 3. The idea of a 10 inch portable display with the same resolution as a paper print makes this photographer drool.

    I’ve moved all my bible study, sermon note taking, and journaling over to my iPhone. Evernote and olive tree bible reader are an AMAZING pair. Love having Strongs and an exhaustive lexicon available by tapping on any word.
