Our Prayers

From a reader of the blog and one in the middle of the Colorado fires:

I’m a regular reader of Jesus Creed and I have a favor to ask:

When many of you wake up in the morning, you will probably read about the fires in Colorado.  This evening the fire called the Waldo Canyon Fire grew rapidly and erratically.  Many, many homes in Colorado Springs have been destroyed and I fear lives may have been lost (although we do not know of any at  this time).  Some of those homes belong to friends.  And some those homes are being defended tonight by friends who are putting their own lives at risk.

I hope maybe we can just pray for those affected by the fires here in Colorado?

Join us in prayer today for those affected by the Colorado fires.

Please, my wife’s sister and her family are there and she says she is very scared. The fire is very close to where she works now…

Our former home & neighborhood are in the mandatory evacuation zone. We’re praying for all those whom we knew, our neighbors, those w/ whom we shared fellowship and love, elementary school volunteering, piano lessons, school plays, brownies, cub scouts, soccer-soccer-soccer… Our hearts are very grieved to hear of their pain and see the fearful scenes & losses.

My home is in a “pre-evacuation zone” (meaning be ready because you might get an evacuation order if things turn worse) for one of the other Colorado fires (which at this point is not nearly as destructive as the one near Co. Springs). So I’d second the request.

Prayers for those working on the fires, those displaced, those worrying about being displaced and losing their homes. For cool heads and comfort amidst fear and uncertainty. And for rain (and, more important, diminished winds) if you are so inclined.

Yes, please do pray for our city (also a regular reader and occasional commenter here). Fortunately, my house is on the far East side of town and is not likely to be threatened by this fire. But I have friends who are likely to have lost everything already and many others who are now on evacuation notice.

The good news is, the community is rallying around one another and many churches in the area have exemplified Christ-like compassion and service to those in need.

But, dear God, we need a miracle to get this fire stopped soon.

As a wife of retired chesterfield county, va, firefighter, we join with the others as we pray for the safety of those there fighting this terrible fire. We lifted you up in prayer tonight at our Wednesday night prayer meeting. May the lord protect all of you. Dear lord please give them the wisdom to fight and please stop this by your power and may they see only You could have done this.

As an Aussie I know how terrifying fires can be, we are quite familiar with them (unfortunately) and only three years ago lost nearly 200 people in Victoria as a result. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
