If You’d Like News of My (Independent!) Memoir

As some of you know, I’m currently writing a (funny/not so funny) memoir that takes off from the depths of my sudden conversion experience to an exploration of my life up to that point. If you would like to be notified when that memoir is finished (or would perhaps like to read and comment upon chunks of it as I go), either leave a comment on this post in the usual way, or contact me directly via my Contact Me page. I will not do anything with your email address besides let you know when the memoir is finished, and/or keep you up on its progress. (And on a side note, can I just say how nice it is to finally be taking the time to carefully craft what I write, instead of what I’ve been doing for fifteen years, which is producing virtually everything I write [except for my book “Penguins”] on a deadline so tight half the time it feels like all I’m doing is typing? I love writing the near-daily blog posts that simultaneously appear here and on Crosswalk.com, and I’ve certainly enjoyed the book work I’ve done. But I can’t tell you how much it means to me to be working on something over which I alone have control. No editors. No agents. No advertising reps. No sales department. No marketing people. No theology vetters. Just me. Freakin’ yay!)

Hey John – I'd love to read it!

    Kim –

  • Liz

Me teacher me! (while holding my hand up) that's how we do it in school here in Kinya.

  • Ha! OK, I gotcha, young Liz. You can put your hand down. And no, you cannot do your book report on a comic book. It has to be a real book.

  • Hey John,

I'm totally interested in reading your memoir. While I write for a ministry I'd rather not name (lol) full-time for the last 2 1/2 years…I've been a creative writer (plays/screenplays/the prerequisite 2 uncompleted novels/an MFA degree from Brown University that I can't even locate right now) for over 20…

…who just happens to also have had an unexpected (if long sought after) conversion experience. Go figure?!

Although, after 20 years on the path — +Buddhism+Toaism+Hermeticism+astrology+I-Ching+Freudian psychoanalysis&a few shrinks of my own — I still haven't figured out how to write personally about any of it, I would enthusiastically read yours as you process through. GOOD STUFF, DUDE. :=) J.

  • "I write for a ministry I'd rather not name." Man, if that doesn't about wrap it up.

Wow. Explorations, you say, into Buddhism, Taoism, I-Ching, and Freudian psychoanalysis? It's weird how much that stuff COUNTS, right? So much of current Christian … public expression, anyway, is so clueless about how REAL so much of that stuff is to so many people. Like none of it could possibly have ANY relationship to any God that's … large, at all.

Anyway, thank you. I'll keep you in the loop.

  • what, comic books aren't REAL books? Heretic.

Of course I'll be buying a copy, you know. Gotta spread the love to fellow wordsmiths. 😀

  • Oh, I’m sorry, Kim, but I can’t allow anyone who knew me in high school to read my memoir. I hope you understand. (HA! This is a joke. I’m flattered you’d care to read it at all. Thanks.)

  • John – please put me on your notification list! I have found that writing a book based on a personal journey is not as easy as it sounds. But, I can imagine that once it's finished – it's an amazing accomplishment! Guess I need to get back to work on my book! 😀

You may be free from agents and deadlines but you cant run away from people(e.g me)who’ll keep asking EVERY day John are you done yet?

John, I'd like to read it as well. I post as "MM" on here also. Trying to switch over to the pen name(this one) online as much as possible now. That and actually write something new everyday.

I've been away for a season from the Shore Store (good enough to maaass produce). Would love to comment as it comes along.

    Love in Him!

  • Keep me updated, too. Thanks!

    Hi John,

I would like to read it too. The experiences you have posted here so far have inspired me to face some of my own family history and write about it as well. I have been trying to get up the courage to write a memoir but don’t think I am ready just yet.

Please add me to your list! Of course, I will buy the book and will expect to have it personally autographed by you so I can then sell it on Ebay for megabucks when the movie comes out 🙂
