Worthwhile Reads: Someone else noticed Kirk Cameron’s connections!

Jocelyn Anderson of the Examiner has written an article called Kirk Cameron, Complementarianism, and Christian Patriarchy. In other words, I’m not the only one watching Cameron’s connections to Doug Phillips and all the rest.

About Libby Anne

Libby Anne grew up in a large evangelical homeschool family highly involved in the Christian Right. College turned her world upside down, and she is today an atheist, a feminist, and a progressive. She blogs about leaving religion, her experience with the Christian Patriarchy and Quiverfull movements, the detrimental effects of the "purity culture," the contradictions of conservative politics, and the importance of feminism.

Note the time stamp. I think Libby Anne published early, then pulled.

I frequently write a post and then tell it when to publish, sometime in the future – this is how I try to regularly have a morning post and an afternoon post. In this case I messed up when scheduling so it appeared at midnight rather than in the morning as usual, and when I noticed that I changed it. I could have just left it I suppose, but whatever, what’s done is done. Sorry for the confusion!

I have to say that everytime I see the word Patriarchy with ‘Christian’ attached to it I have to role my eyes. I see 2 roads on this issue. I see those who have been abused by a dad who took his role so serious that he abused his family and didn’t realize it but I also see a witch hunt that pulls a dad down and tells him his word is good for nothing. This happens in non religious families as well but when God is invoked it somehow overtakes the secular abuses because of its nature and the way religion is played out in society today. When there is a marriage there are roles to be played by each party because each gender is built differently but it seems those of feminist persuation want those roles stripped of one gender so that the female gender gets the power. The male gender is then left as a shell because his natural role chastized. This is what I am seeing.

This deal with Kirk Cameron is a hoot for me. Seems that if someone stands up and speak out to say homosexuality is wrong, for whatever reason then another conspiracy theory is up for grabs. Someone or some group then goes to see who is behind the scenes to see who is motivating the soapbox. It is just like a game of politics? Give it up already! Or, maybe I haven’t thought it through enough? Am I the ignorant one? Homosexuality has become a political one and if you get in the way you will have a target on your back. Amazing, American-what a country!

While on this last subject (last paragraph) how about the movement to throw stones at Chic Fil A because they do not support homosexual issues but are ‘pro family’ as they say. I am willing to bet that the more one reads on this issue the more negative press you will find about Chic Fil A and it all just centers around people who can’t take the fact that a group or business does not agree and does not support homosexuality and that is deemed a threat to homosexuals. Chic Fil A must be an important company for this to happen? There is a situation going on at NYU, I think it is, having Chick Fil a thrown off campus as a result. I find it absolutely ridiculous!!

Sometimes I really think Politics has become the new religion and political correctness is the speech that everyone needs to adhere to. Yeah, there is true freedom right there!
