Healing Art Project for Sexual Assault Survivors

Healing Art Project for Sexual Assault Survivors November 29, 2016

I recently received an email from Sarah Jane, a longtime reader, about an art project she is putting together to encourage people to see sexual assault survivors as individual human beings with full lives. Here is Sarah Jane’s email:

Hi Libby Anne,

I’m a long-time reader of your blog—although I rarely comment, I’ve been reading faithfully since sometime in 2012. I particularly appreciate your thoughtful critiques of conservative Christianity and purity culture, which did a real number on me and a number of my friends. It’s been helpful to absorb your perspective and envision different ways of thinking about faith, relationships, ethics, & culture. For that, I cannot thank you enough.

As the subject line warned you, I’m also writing today with a request. I’ve recently begun a participatory art project to empower survivors of sexual assault, of whom I am one. I think it might interest some of your readers, and if you feel it’s appropriate, I would greatly appreciate you sharing this interview about the project in one of your collections of links.

Thank you again for all you do.

Peace

SJ

You can read the interview Sarah Jane references here, and you can learn more about her project here. Sarah Jane is asking survivors of sexual assault to send her small items that represent themselves and their lives, accompanied by notes explaining the items’ significance, and is putting these objects into glass small glass bottles, each one full of meaning. If you would like to participate, you can learn how to here.
