Prayer Requests

A reader writes:

I requested prayers for my marriage and discernment about how to best help my children a few weeks ago; last week I decided to leave my home and work things out — hopefully– with my husband, but with some physical distance between us. I am currently trying to navigate the possibility that I will have to find a job and an apartment, with 4 children, 50 miles from the house they have grown up in, and school starting in less than a week. Please, please pray for healing of the individuals in my family, and our family as a whole. And that Our Lord will turn any of my mistakes to the Good.

Father, hear our prayer through your Son Jesus Christ.  Mother Mary and St. Joseph, pray for this family.

Another reader writes:

My father (a college professor by trade) has been out of steady work for about two years now, and the toll of rejection after job rejection (including one man who simply told him he was too old to be hired) has worn on him mentally, however much he’d deny it. If you could ask your readers to pray for him and myself to find steady work, I would be extraordinarily grateful. I know my patron, St. Jude, has helped me out before, so keeping him in the loop would be appreciated as well.

Father, hear our prayer that he swiftly find work and join his sufferings to your Son’s.  Mother Mary, St. Joseph, St. Jude and St. Thomas Aquinas, pray for him and all who love him.  We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Another reader writes:

I have heard that my father, Doug Hamilton, passed away inSouth Africa. He was unchurched, but a devoted father, setting a high bar for his 3 sons. Requiescat in pace.

+May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Father, hear our prayer through Jesus Christ for the repose of his soul.  Mother Mary, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

To the first prayer request. I left my husband in june, took our 4 kids and moved one thousand miles away (to my home town). My husband and I started over the phone therapy with a Catholic therapy group. I am moving back to live with my husband at semester break (December). We communicate better than we ever had in 16 years. When he visits we enjoy each others company in ways we have not in years. I cannot stress how important it is to get advice from people who want to help you fix your problems and not give up. The grace we have received from the prayers of friends and strangers has allowed both of us to work on our marriage without holding on to bitterness and old hurts. I will pray for you and your husband to find God’s will for your marriage and not to be influenced by the negative view of marriage many in your life will burden you with. There are others, like me and my husband, that have found our way through the darkness with help from faithful Catholics holding the light for us. There are people who can hold God’s light for you so you can see the path back home. I really hope you make it. Run the good race, fight the good fight. I will hold you up in my prayers.

    Prayers for all.

S., which therapy group (and how did you afford it *and* the expense of an apartment etc?)

I moved back to my hometown so I could live with a family member. It helped in an unexpected way. I found that I do not like having to live in someone’s home, in their upstairs bedroom with my kids bunking in another. I had to ask myself was the marriage I created so bad and so broken that I had to live like that. Was it so unfixable that I need to live in poverty to “get away” from my husband. The answer was no way. Things were not that broken. Plus I read a lot of articles on the internet by adult children of divorce. I didn’t think my problems were so bad that I had to break my kids’ family. (I know some people are in marriages that can’t be fixed).

We used The Pastoral Solutions Institute (exceptionalmarriages.com) The founder has a talk show on Catholic radio. I think they have a sliding pay scale. My husband was kind enough to pay for the therapy. Good luck.

Please pay with me that the investors coming to see my house tomorrow will offer a sale price that will allow me to sell then purchase another home closer to my elderly mother and autistic son. Also pray with me that I prevail in court next week against my ex husband, and that the judge sees fit to order him to continue paying support that reflects his upcoming salary increase and that will help cover my son’s medical and living expenses.

I am the poster for the first prayer request. Thank you, S. for your suggestions. I am also living with relatives and it is very stressful just to try to fit into their lives. I am facing the prospect of dragging my children through major upheaval, but the verbal abuse has been too much for me after 8 years. I pray that my non-Catholic husband will be willing to enter into some kind of counseling with me as I am willing to try to save the relationship, but I cannot bring myself to be under the same roof with him until there are better boundaries and less violence.
I guess I will have to look into the counseling. We are completely broke, in debt, and my husband works a job he hates. I will have to find some work here, I guess. It is going to take some kind of miracle for this to work out.

    Thanks again for the prayers.
