New offer from first-ever Christian Zionism conference February 20, 2015

“People of the Land”: A Twenty-first Century Case for Christian Zionism

This is the title of a one-day conference at Georgetown University on Friday, April 17.

As far as we know, this is the first academic conference that makes a case for Christian Zionism.  Usually, academics bash the concept as exegetically impossible and theologically illegitimate.

This conference will be innovative in two ways:

1. It will show that the roots of Christian Zionism lay in non-dispensationalist movements that came long before the rise of dispensationalism.

2. It will feature papers by New Testament scholars showing that the New Testament is Zionist.  Scholars will argue that Christians have not seen this because they have been trained not to see it.  In other words, they have been trained in supersessionism, which means not only that God’s covenant with Israel ended in 30 AD, but also that there is no concern for the land of Israel as theologically significant in the New Testament.  These scholars will argue the opposite.

The Institute on Religion and Democracy–the conference host–is making a new offer for registrants: If you register before March 17, the conference fee will be reduced to $25.

Furthermore, student registrants are invited to a  free dinner with IRD President Mark Tooley, Philos Project Director Robert Nicholson, and yours truly on Friday night (April 17) after the conference. In addition, students are eligible for financial assistance for travel and lodging.  They can  contact Kristin Larson at klarson@theird.org

See the conference website for the conference schedule and speakers.  They include well-known scholars and thinkers such as Craig Blaising, Robert Benne, Darrel Bock, David Rudolph, Mark Kinzer, Joel Willitts, Carol Swain, Mark Tooley, and Robert Nicholson.

Don’t dawdle!  If you don’t sign up before March 17, you might not get a seat at this important and historic conference.
