May I take your intentions with me to Rome? – UPDATED

(My photo of ancient side altar at the Basilica of Santa Sabina)

While I am busy getting my column written for tomorrow and attending to other duties and devotions (Easter Monday Adoration! Yay!) I thought I’d invite you to leave your prayer requests and intentions in the comments thread. I will print them out and take them with me to Rome, and ask St. Catherine of Siena, St. Philip Neri and others for their prayerful support on your behalves, and then take the whole list with me — in my hands and heart — to the Beatification Mass of Bl. John Paul II.

And of course, seeing all of our needs, let us pray for each other’s concerns.

I, for instance, ask you to pray for my Elder Son, who has a “callback” this week for an entry-level job that he ‘s very excited about, for my younger son who is still sick but seems finally on the mend, for me in my travels, and for my husband who hates to eat alone, and who would have tried to join me on the trip, if only the dog were not so very old…

And you?

UPDATE: I am so moved by the many, many stories of job-seeking, illness, kids away from church. Please know I have all of these requests, and I will also have my iPad w/me, so I will add new ones as they come up!

*For Abby Johnson and Bryan Kemper.
*For my parents–for their physical, spiritual, emotional, financial health and well-being.
*For Charlie that he’ll be healed of any health problems. For our future together, for an answer to our prayer/problem. For his sisters Sandy and Maria that their health problems will get better.
*For my dog Josie, that her kidneys are healed and she’ll no longer need medicine or special food.
*So that I’ll be healed of whatever is causing my abdominal pain and troubles, so I can go off my stomach meds. So that my liver will be protected from all the meds I’m on. So that my heart problem will not be affected/exacerbated by my stomach meds.
*For Jen, Mary Cate, and Samantha.
    *For answers to two prayers/problems.

Thank you for doing this. I truly appreciate it. May God bless you and have a GREAT time!

I will pray for you. Please pray for my son. He graduated from a prestigious (a.k.a. expensive) university last May and has been unable to get a single job interview. It’s a long story & I won’t bore you with the details but the bottom line is that he has $140, 000 in student loans that he is unable to pay because he can’t find a job. He racks up more interest & penalties with every passing day. He has lost all hope & is now in the throws of serious clinical depression. He is a Christian but says he feels abandoned by God. Please pray that my son will find a job and a way to pay off his student loans.

What a beautiful gift this is! Thank you! Please pray for my next steps. I’ve spent the past 2 years resting and recouping from a life askew. I’m ready to get back to what it is the Lord has called me to. Please pray that doors open as needed and pathways be brightened.

Know you have my prayers as you go.

    Dear Anchoress,
Thank you for offering to take our prayers with you to Rome. I would be very grateful if you could please remember in particular my brother, that he might find steady work, and me, that I might never stray from Christ (I’ve been struggling with my very very weak faith these days) but rather cling to Him and strive to do His Will.
Blessings to you on your journey, and thank you.

Thank you for giving me the opportunity to pray for all of those before me – it is a humbling thing to see the prayers of others – I was on the verge of not asking for prayers as mine seem so small in comparison, but I am reminded that God is our Father; therefore, nothing is too small to bring before him.

I ask for your prayers for myself as I continue on this home schooling journey we have chosen to walk and I daily question, and yet see the wisdom in it as I watch our children grow.

I also ask that my brother be kept in your prayers as well as numerous people who are written on my heart.

    Thank you so much.

  • Kelly E

    Dear Anchoress,
I love your writing. I am a Mormon who has in the last few months been feeling a stirring about the Catholic Church. I am reading, learning, and praying about whether the Catholic Church is my true home. Please pray for me to have clarity and the courage to do His will.

I will pray for your family. Thank you so much for offering to help your readers in this way. It’s truly a blessing.

  • Mary

For employment. And for my family.

  • FoolishMortal

    Dear Elizabeth,
Please pray for my son, James. He is struggling with a low paying job (about the only one he could find after being laid off from the construction industry). He’s trying so hard to make ends meet, and my husband and I have to help him out once in a while, and we live on Social Security, so there’s not much to go around. Also pray that my son finds a wife. I
will thank you by keeping you and your family in my prayers.

    In Him,

  • Cindy G.

Please pray for my three adult children…for conversion, sobriety, and good spouses some day.

  • Rachel

I’m praying for all the best for your family and safe travel for you. I’d appreciate your prayers for success in my job search. Thank you!

  • Marie

Please pray for my husband, who has had three operations in seven months for oral cancer (the tongue) and who now has two new areas of dysplasia; for our daughter who has suffered two miscarriages and who is now 26 weeks pregnant.

God bless you for your kindness!

Thank you Anchoress! Please pray for my daughters to be healthy and happy again . Please pray for me that my new business be successful and that it very quickly starts to provide a living for myself and my daughters and for my business partner and her family. Pray for my brother’s happiness and my sister’s health.

  • KellyO

Prayers, definitely, still coming your way!

Please pray for my fiance and I – we are getting married July 2nd (he’s 13 years annulled and I’m 4 years widowed) and we are going to be blending families. My 3 kids and I will be moving 300 miles away from my family, friends, and hometown and I need to sell the house, pay for the wedding, find good Catholic schools, find time to pack and move, figure out schedules, etc. I don’t know why I feel that you need the background on my prayer request – I guess I never feel like I “deserve” the prayers and would always rather someone pray for everyone else (I’m a horrible martyr)
    Safe travels and God bless!

    Kelly (Murphy, Briege, & Keagan)

My Dad (82) passed away this evening after developing pneumonia and a blood infection over the weekend. We are relieved he did not appear to be in pain today and that his long dark night of vascular dementia is finally over. I was blessed to be the family member who was with him as he passed.

Thank you for your prayers Anchoress and I am continuing to pray for your son that he gets better. The past couple days I kept thinking of when I had pneumonia at age 25 after returning from a trip to Medjugorje and how my dear dad was the one who drove me to the doctor and then to the hospital to get the chest xray and wheeeled me through the hospital in a borrowed wheelchair because I was too weak to walk.

I am taking it as a special grace that Dad passed on Easter Monday.

[I am sorry for your loss, Zmama; I will remember you both -admin]

Please pray that I am open to God’s will for a new chapter in my life. That I find a place to live, employment, and most importantly — my vocation. If it be pleasing to Him, I pray that I might be received as a consecrated virgin in the diocese of His choice.

For wisdom, guidance, and the grace of prayer for myself and all those I love.

For a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon Canada and the U.S.A.

(Thank you for taking my intentions with you!!)

  • Nan

Prayers to St. Pius X for your safe travels, to the Infant of Prague for both your sons, prayers to St. Roch for your dog and to Abraham and Sarah for your husband.

Please pray for my intentions known to God, for Hannah who I met a few weeks ago and who works at Planned Parenthood (and hasn’t much been exposed to religion), for Elke whose Catholic boyfriends mother is suggesting RCIA but she isn’t interested, and for our priests. Pray especially for the priests.

Mary with the grandchildren named for saints, know that early catechesis sticks with you. My family left the church when I was 7 but I turned out Catholic even without being raised in a religious household. I will pray to soon-to-be-Blessed John Paul II on their behalf, that he may help them to heed their souls thirst for God in their lives and to the Divine Mercy that your daughter have a change of heart and lifestyle.

  • Gordon

May the Peace and Grace of Jesus Christ be with you in your travels and with your family always.
I prayerfully ask that you take with you my prayer for my son Caleb. He is a troubled, gifted young man, searching for Truth, but like a lot of our children is caught up in the secular world. He is like many, convinced by our world that the most important thing in life is to focus on oneself, rather to focus on the importance of helping others, and in doing so, helping yourself. I ask that you pray for the healing of his spiritual, physical, and psychological ills, and that he will find in his heart and soul the Truth in Christ.
God’s speed to you, and thank you for what you are doing.

  • Robin E

For all the special needs children suffering in orphanages around the world because their societies do not accept them, and especially for sweet Brigita, that a loving mama comes for her soon.

Would you kindly pray for my children (especially my daughter who is graduating from college), my husband, and for those members of my extended family who no longer practice or believe in the faith of the church, that they will rediscover the joy and peace of Christ.
    Have a beautiful trip!
