New Online Resource Guide To Atheists, Humanists And Other Non-Theists

New Online Resource Guide To Atheists, Humanists And Other Non-Theists October 11, 2010
There is a fantastic new resource available online to help people understand the non-theistic community in America.
Thanks to the Stiefel Foundation, an online media source called ReligionLink has just published a comprehensive resource guide called, Freethinkers: A source guide to atheists, humanists and other nontheists.
I’m also happy to say that there is a listing for the Society for Humanistic Judaism.  I’d love to get the Association of Humanistic Rabbis in there too!
Many Jews don’t understand why there is a need for Secular Humanistic Judaism.  After all, most liberal synagogues don’t compel any kind of dogma.  Liberal rabbis don’t usually shove theism down the throats of their congregants.
Reading this resource might help them begin to understand us a little better.  The groups,  causes and individuals listed in this guide are the leading voices for science, reason and secularism in North America.
If you are just an interested lurker on this and websites like it, you can peruse this resource and discover that the concerns shared by non-theists may be your concerns, too.  If you’re Jewish you may even notice the disproportionately large number of Jewish names on these lists.
When people question the wisdom in building a form of Judaism that rejects “holiness” and theism, I will now refer them to this new site.  I think it will go a long way toward explaining why we are proud to belong to the community of freethinkers even as we honor our own sense of belonging to the Jewish community.
