I feel like Gollum at the edge of Mt. Doom…

… Only without the death and lava and junk. I finally have a new laptop. My precious.

Isn’t she beautiful? A Toshiba Satellite laptop with 2nd Gen Intel® Core™ i3 Processor, 8 GB of memory, 500GB of hard drive, and the best part… it was on sale with a $200 discount.

One caveat…

For all those who generously made donations, thank you.

So I’ll go ahead and be the first…windows 8 is terrible and is an example of Microsoft’s ineptitude when it comes to design. There, I’m done.

I regularly use Windows7, MacOS, and Linux. I was also involved in beta testing Windows 8 compatibility with our hardware. All can get the job done. Anyone who flames you over it is drinking the KoolAid.

hating windows 8 isn’t about drinking the coolaid…its about not wanting to use a tablet interface on a desktop, laptop form factor…..all they need to do to fix it is have a screen asking you if it’s a desktop or a tablet when you first use it…and start out in the proper mode from then on.

Luckily it looks like the next release of 8 will have more of a desktop paradigm available.
Since we’re ranting on laptop vs tablet styles, I didn’t like it when OSX reversed their scrolling pattern on their trackpads (and mice with scrollwheels)

agreed. I like some of mac osx changes, like the app store, but what I really like is the fact that the ios interface option launchpad is an option, not the default. Apple should really set the default for the scroll on the mouse to the traditional style, maybe the trackpad too (though I can see that has at least a little logic.)
