Did Everyone Take Crazy Pills and I Miss My Dose…

… By now I’m sure everyone’s seen the video of the dancing clerics. I just found the whole thing silly and awkward; just another facepalm moment in church news. Dignity… always dignity.

And then I went back to my weekend… because, you know, it’s just a video.

When I come back online this happened.

NAZIS! Nazis everywhere!

Kitler is not impressed.

Now, ripe from all the head spinning, the media has provided a new fresh hell. Pope OK with Gay Clergy, declare headlines. Or something like that. It doesn’t matter. Francis muttered something about not judging gays. Close enough.

And there was much gnashing and wailing of teeth. And lots of head exploding over another facepalm moment in reactionary Catholic news.

I’m sorry. I just can’t do it today. I got nothing. My bat shit crazy meter is on full and my limit on complete and utter ass-buffonery has been reached.

If you still don’t understand what the Church teaches on homosexuality, choosing instead to believe some media spun sound bite taken from a hastily arranged interview, then I certainly can’t begin to explain it to you here.

On the same note, if you are all ready plotting a rebellion, thinking Orthodoxy is looking pretty good right now, or talking schism over a jazz hands video and comments taken out of context I don’t have the time or patience to entertain your paranoia either.

And then there’s the very derogatory and gloating remarks at the expense of the very genuine concern that “trads”, “conservatives” or “right wing” Catholics (whatever the hell you call us) are having. Whether the concerns are founded or not doesn’t negate the fact they are still genuinely made out of love for the faith. You wish you had our passion for the Church.

Everyone look, I can’t go around feeling anxious all the time and neither should you. As much as I dislike this pontiff’s style, I still love the papacy and the Church and no amount of bitching and moaning is going to change my affections or loyalty. And you shouldn’t let it disrupt your peace either.

I mean look at this, just look at it …

Doesn’t that make you feel proud to be a papist? It should.

The rest… that’s just chatter and noise meant to distract.

To those determined to see and feel distress and distrust, I commend the words of our Savior to the saint of the day, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious about many things…”

  • tj.nelson

Yeah well… Fr. Z went through a horrible power outage this weekend and we all thought it was Armageddon!

  • Kim Whelan

Bravo! I agree… they are going to hear what they want to hear! I also agree that all of this distraction is meant for us to eat each other up. I’m not going to join in the fray.

I saw someone on the net today say that the problem with WYD was that most of the youth that attended were public school attendees. Not kidding. I’m starting to get terrified of my fellow Catholics.

    Three cheers!

I have to hand it to the news media, they’ve outdone themselves in cherry-picking remarks made by a Pope. Here’s a sample of what many reporters chose *not* to include in their coverage of Francises press conference, courtesy of John Allen’s blog post in today’s National Catholic Reporter:

“”I love Benedict XVI. He’s a humble man of God and a man of prayer. When he resigned, it was a great example … some say to me, how is it possible to have two popes in the Vatican? I heard a beautiful phrase that it’s like having your grandpa at home, someone who’s wise, venerated, loved and listened to. If I have a problem, something I don’t understand, I can ask. On the Vatican leaks scandal, for example, he explained everything with simplicity and a spirit of service.”

The same reporters also left out the part of the interview where Pope Francis reaffirmed the Church’s established position on women and the priesthood. One can only imagine why . . . . Kudos to Mr. Allen for including these remarks.

And just when I was getting ready to protest the willfull upheaval of the faith due to the willfull exclusion of fiddlback chasubles, here you go making sense again ;-) Thanks for another great post!

You’re a breath of fresh air on Patheos today. Seems like just about everyone else has lost their damn minds.

  • TheodoreSeeber

I really don’t get people being up in arms about the dancing bishops. It isn’t like they were roller skating circus angels or anything.

  • Roadkill Rhapsody

Great post! (Sorry – nothing else to add, really!).

Think I lost my comment and was incomplete too long anyway!
