Reminiscing the weekend away…

… Gospel music is so underrated. Especially Southern Gospel. Some of that older stuff, stuff my gran and I used to listen to was like a Flannery story set to music.

Her birthday just passed. She would have been 91 years old. She was a simple Southern girl with faith as earnest as the music she listened to. I was named after her, you know. Lord I miss her.

  • Quittin’ time at Tara!

Someone had better scan the Louvin Brothers basement with some ground penetrating radar. Just. Wow.

You look like her Kat. Both of you are beautiful.

  • Parrish Family

And I do understand that a lot of them have some faulty theology that has no place in Church where folks could get confused – but I know the issues, and they don’t confuse me – I just love singing loud and gustily with my Pandora “Wings of a Dove” station while I do housework – LOL. :)

Some of the older stuff, the stuff with roots in blue grass and mountain music is very hardcore with heavy themes of redemption and staying outta hell. Stuff you don’t hear anymore, not even in Catholic Church.

One of their songs is about a cheating wife who left her family, and the husband and kids pray for her everyday. I mean… wow.
