The moon has always been alluring, no doubt. It’s there, up in the sky, waxing and waning, glowing softly, always mysterious.  Until I moved to what I call (say it with me) the magical land of Asheville, I relegated most of my moon musings to Moonstruck with Cher (La Bella Luna!) and sometimes noticing people’s behavior around the full moon.  Is this true for you?

Living in Asheville, full of spectacular nature, it would not be surprising that the moon caught my attention. At first, it was just to notice the beauty of it, ever so delightful as it rose above the mountains that surround us. I noticed a shift as I lived fully in the seasons, and the moon was part of it. Dark moon, new moon, full moon, onward and around. Tied in with my magical workings, I noticed the potency it had. A bit slow to the game, you’re probably thinking. Yes, but also at the right time for me in my journey. Better late than never, right?

Dark moon can bring about the deliciousness darkness of my shadow work. Not every cycle, certainly.  The few times I have utilized its power has been very fulfilling, and a release of tension in many ways. See, that’s what I love about magical workings: you work with nature to get something done. It’s all about intent. At least for me.

New moon, glorious new moon.  I love beginnings, and the new moon is always great to boost setting intentions, releasing fear or that which no longer serves me. Also good for starting new projects, helping focus with my vision boards, and opening new horizons.

Full moon, celebrating the fruition of seeds planted earlier, receiving and opening to what is available. Bathing in the glow of that stunning full moon is truly magical, and all the world seems in a hazy, happy glow.

There are more phases to the moon that I have to learn, but I am taking my time, and savoring each tidbit I add to my Moon Knowledge. I know that I am not the first nor the last to discover moon magic, as many cultures throughout time have done the same. It took me moving to another place to notice its effect on me, plants, nature itself.  I remain ever grateful for the pull, the tides, as well as the emptiness within and without. The moon guides me as a counterpart to my stalwart friend, the sun. Being a Pisces, I am used to walking the line between two things/ideas/concepts at the same time. It is a never ending balancing act that is usual to my sign. At least for me. The sun and the moon represent both sides of me, the dark and the light, the internal glowing and the shiny brightness.  Indeed, as I was writing this, a friend sent me this quote: “The sun watches what I do, but the moon knows all my secrets. ~J.M. Wonderland”  Coincidence? I think not. La Luna moves in mysterious ways, and guides me when I need to be guided.

What about you? Is the moon a cold, distant orb, or a vital part of your life? Try adding the moon to your calendar and see what happens. Start with a new moon and cycle through, even if it’s just observing it outside before you go to sleep at night. When the full moon is in all its glory, stand outside, reach out your arms, and feel its energy, draw it into yourself.  It’s an experience you won’t want to miss. If you have crystals, let them bathe in the moonlight and recharge.  Same with tarot/oracle card decks.  Notice the difference in energy once they’ve been charged or recharged. And when you see La Luna, please be sure to say hello from me. As you can tell, she is very special to me.
