Deep Breath: Work Comes After The Celebration

Over the past months, our country has done the work of getting out the vote. Since early voting began, Americans have come out in unprecedented numbers to determine who the leader of our country will be for the next four years. And while we may have had the longest election week in history, a presumptive winner has been chosen. And thank the Gods it is Joe Biden and Kamala Harris!

Our country has much to celebrate, as witnessed by the masses of people who came out after the news of Biden and Harris’s historic (their ticket broke the record with 75,546,659 votes) victory. And Harris is the first Black/South Asian American woman to be the Vice President! It’s a great day for Vice-President Elect Harris and for all women whom she represents.

Yes. Trump is raising a challenge (while spouting outright lies about voter fraud as he’s been doing since 2016!). But as John Beckett rightly states in Sigh of Relief: 13 Thoughts on Joe Biden’s Victory — it comes down to math, not politics. Joe Biden is our President-Elect and he will be sworn in as our 46th President come January 20th, 2021.

Therefore, it’s now time to take that deep breath and get to work bringing our country back from the Trump era of hate, vitriol, and national separatism. And hold Biden and Harris to their promises of healing, restoration, and recovery for ALL Americans.

Work: Time To Remember Who We Are

One thing this election has proven (to the heartbreak of many) is how deeply divided our country is in ideology. This includes disagreements within the Witchcraft, Wiccan, and Pagan communities that have taken a very harsh tone in social media.

Many of us cannot understand how any Witch, Wiccan, or Pagan could vote for Trump (and make no mistake –it’s about supporting him and the MAGA cult that’s infiltrated the Republican party, not necessarily conservative viewpoints as a whole).

As a Witch, I do not live in a spiritual vacuum. My witchcraft is part of who I am and how I define myself as a person. My spiritual path intersects with my life and how I view the world and this includes my political views as an American and citizen of the world. To deny one is to deny the whole. Hence the disconnect with those who can separate political views from their Witchcraft, Pagan path, et al.

But I agree with my friend, Martha Kirby Capo, and Lisa Wagoner that our work as Witches and magickal practitioners continues as always. Healing in regard to COVID, emotional distress, fallow periods. Those of us dedicated to protecting our election process, our elected officials, etc., cannot stop doing that work.

3 Candle Protection/Healing/Restoration Spell For the U.S.A

So, with the understanding that hexing and healing are two sides of the same coin, I offer a spell.

Intention: To offer avenues of protection, healing, and restoration for our country.

Needed:

3 Candles that are Red, Blue, White — I recommend the tall jar candles that you can burn over time but tealights or spell candles will also work.

Herbs and/or Oils — Follow your intuition on what works best for you. For instance, my personal allies for protection include rosemary, salt, and bay leaf. Healing will include apple/apple blossom, lavender, and rose. Restoration includes basil, garlic, and sage. You can crush the herbs/salt to sprinkle into your candle, roll the candle, or use it as a bed to place each candle upon. You can anoint the candles with essential oils of the herbs, etc.

A map (printed or hand-drawn) of the United States of America — This can be one that is already colored and marked or blank so you can color and mark it yourself as you visualize your intention. I got the idea to use a map for focus from the Blue Wave Spell. Very powerful.

• You can use the Bind Trump Sigil (because his influence may remain for a long time) as well as any other protection symbols as desired (or create your own) on the Red Candle. You can find or create sigils for healing (blue candle) and restoration (white).
• Create a separate small altar for this work where you can add symbols of the United States (liberty statue or bell, eagles, flags, etc) or add to a larger/main altar. Whatever works best for you.

Instructions:

Create a sacred space/cast circle according to your practice/tradition. Call in the elements, watchtowers, deities or spirit allies with whom you wish to do this work.

Place the map, and then your candles on top of the map, where you will do this work. Prepare each candle (adding herbs, oils, writing sigils on them) while focusing on the intention for each candle:

Red: May the people of the United States of America (the soul of this nation) be protected from all threats (spiritual, emotional, ideological, physical) that promote hate, violence, vitriol, or disenfranchisement. Bind Donald Trump’s influence over the people of this country. Break his hold over the Republican party.

Blue: May the people of the United States of America (the soul of this nation) find healing in mind, emotions, body, and spirit. Hearts healed. Relationships mended. Covid removed as a threat. Healing in all areas.

White:  May the people of the United States of America (the soul of this nation) work together to find common ground in thought and principle, and learn to respect those with whom they disagree once more. Remove vitriol and all the ideologies which harm this nation and its people. Restore hope for a kinder, better union for ALL Americans.

Light each candle while speaking the intention. Focus on the intention. So mote it be.

Thank any and all spirits who may have joined you. Thank the elements for their assistance. Release the circle.
