This weekend, the President of the United States decided to taunt football players who are exercising their First Amendment right to engage in political protest. No, I take that back. He did more than “taunt.” He suggested that the owners of the NFL teams should fire these players.
“If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL,or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect…our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU’RE FIRED. Find something else to do!”
This is a problem, of course, for the NFL, for our Constitutional rights, and for America. For conservatives who have been decrying the “politicization of sports,” suddenly the President himself became the biggest triggered snowflake around. And now, more NFL players than ever are taking the knee to defy the President.
Here are the best tweets related to this ridiculous development:
talk radio’s moved on from PC culture is killing our country to NFL players should be fired for not conforming to my idea of patriotism

Seven owners spent at least $1 million to elect Trump. They likely thought they were buying “tax reform.” They probably won’t even get that. https://t.co/aXn3JitD9q

I’m confident we’ll contain & transcend Trump. But the damage Trump’s now doing to our national comity & civic fabric is genuinely alarming.
