President Donald Trump’s White House has indicated that it would prefer that embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore win his seat, even though he is a credibly accused of dating high-school-aged girls as an adult, molesting a 14-year-old girl, and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old.
Recently, Trump made his support even more apparent.
“Democrats refusal to give even one vote for massive Tax Cuts is why we need Republican Roy Moore to win in Alabama,” he tweeted. “We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall, Military, Pro Life, V.A., Judges 2nd Amendment and more. No to Jones, a Pelosi/Schumer Puppet!”
The candidate was thrilled with the full throated endorsement. He tweeted, “Thankful for President Trump’s support. The America First agenda will #MAGA. Can’t wait to help him #DrainTheSwamp. #ALSEN.”

The Weekly Standard makes the point that the Moore campaign is going well, in spite of recent headlines.
Despite the enormous moral cloud hanging over Moore’s head, polls suggest he is more likely than not to win. Two public surveys released at the end of November show Moore with a 5- to 6-point lead, which is about what internal Moore campaign polling shows. While Moore had trailed in several polls right after the scandal broke, his numbers have turned around for a few reasons, and the most important may be Donald Trump.
Some articles, even in conservative publications like The Federalist, argue that even if Moore is guilty, a pedophile is better than a Democrat. But, as Slate writer Will Saletan tweeted, “When you become the party of Donald Trump, you become the party of Roy Moore.”
