CNN’s Jake Tapper invited White House adviser Stephen Miller onto his show to discuss Michael Wolff’s new gossipy book:
Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House
This new best seller purports to explain the behind-the-scenes details of the Donald Trump White House, and it’s gotten Beltway tongues-a-wagging. The interview began with Miller being very flattering of his boss. “The President’s tweets absolutely reaffirm the plainspoken truth: A self-made billionaire revolutionized reality TV and tapped into something magical that’s happening in the hearts of this country,” he said.
The Week has more of the details:
The president is a political genius … who took down the Bush dynasty, who took down the Clinton dynasty, who took down the entire media complex,” Miller argued, defending Trump’s Saturday claim to be a “very stable genius” who is “like, really smart.” Miller called Wolff the “garbage author of a garbage book,” accused Tapper of being “condescending,” and called CNN “very fake news.”
Eventually, Tapper had enough. “I get it. There’s one viewer that you care about right now, and you’re being obsequious, and you’re being a factotum in order to please him,” he said as he cut off the conversation.
Tapper grew visibly more frustrated as the interview went on, and eventually cut off his guest’s microphone:
“I get it. There’s one viewer that you care about right now,” he said. “You’re being obsequious. You’re being a factotum in order to please him. And I think I’ve wasted enough of my viewers’ time.”
Of course, President Trump was watching the exchange, and he believed Miller got the upper hand:
