From the No Good Deed Shall Go Unpunished Department…

…comes a story about some Good Samaritans who were giving things away for free, and their charity was so heinous that the City of Sacramento warned them to stop or else be slapped with a $1,000 fine, for being in violation of garage sale city codes. Because giving stuff away for free is exactly like an illegal garage sale.

Bureaucracy is a contagion that seeks to kill good will.

The determination of these Good Samaritans is commendable:

Worsley and her housemates are now considering whether to fight the city’s code enforcement or start holding the giveaways at different homes around the area. Regardless, “code enforcement will not stop me from helping people,” Worsley posted to the “Pay It Forward In Sacramento Ca” Facebook group. “I am still taking donations to help provide the people in need with the things they need…”

I wish these fine and charitable people luck – they are in Kalifornia, after all.
