Long-time blog readers will know that David Wayne and I struck up a close blogging friendship some years ago despite the fact he is on the opposite side of the Atlantic and is in a very different kind of church to me. Just before Christmas the Christian blogosphere was rocked to hear that he was suffering from bowel cancer which had already spread to the lungs and liver. An operation and some gruelling chemotherapy later, and David has been able... Read more

I thought I would share comments from the UK’s equivalent of InterVaristy Fellowship and from the pastor of one of Newfrontiers’ largest churches and leader of the NewDay Conference. I have been sick with a flu bug most of the week, and this evening finally feel like I am on the mend, so in my silence, those of you who are following the story of my book may be interested to read the following–such comments genuinely surprise me, not least... Read more

The Doctor makes a strong point below, but I wonder if he might think differently in this society where our kids will learn about sex at school, and unless we are eternally vigilant, on TV. I do want my children to learn about these things form me, but at the same time I want to talk about it in a way that they are neither encouraged to sin, nor given the idea that sex is dirty and sinful. For more... Read more

The following paragraph is one of the last things I have written to be inserted in my book Raised With Christ at this last major round of edits. It was inspired by a fantastic song on the fantastic new CCK album: One of the most emotive events in the whole Bible takes place when a friend of Jesus dies. The pain of Lazarus’ sister is tangible. In a sense everything the Bible has shown us about the problem of death... Read more

This little video is a great window into the heart of this man of God. I find quotes like this personally challenging. May God help all of us to truly pursue him in prayer. One interesting question this raises is this: does getting up early help your spiritual health? Read more

Crossway have shared a brief extract of my forthcoming book over on their blog. Somehow it seems strange to see these words I have spent more than two years working on available for others to read. I guess I better get used to it! So, here it is, your first sight of what is coming: Jesus’ resurrection really did change everything. It changed the cross from a tragedy into a triumph, and it changed the Roman Empire into a Christian... Read more

OK, so that title got your attention! In fact, Justin Taylor’s blog Between Two Worlds will no longer be updated at its old address. But Justin has not, thankfully given up blogging. Instead his wonderful blog has moved to be hosted at The Gospel Coalition. I cannot commend his posts enough, he provides the Christian world with a fantastic service. So, add his new feed to your feed reader or follow him on twitter. You can also read Justin Taylor’s... Read more

As I near the end of the long process or writing and editing “Raised With Christ – How The Resurrection Changes Everything” my thoughts are beginning to turn towards the subject of how to make sure anybody actually reads the thing! I will be letting readers know soon how you can pre-order it. It has been amazing to me to see how some very kind endorsements have been coming in. I already shared two with you before, here are a... Read more

“A PROMISE from God may very instructively be compared to a cheque payable to order. It is given to the believer with the view of bestowing upon him some good thing. It is not meant that he should read it over comfortably, and then have done with it. No, he is to treat the promise as a reality, as a man treats a cheque.” So begins a little book I have been reading. I wonder what you think of such... Read more

Twice a year I like to share by way of a thank-you a list of the top blogs and websites that have referred the most traffic here. I have always excluded search engines (and hence all google sites such as google reader) which are of course incredibly important in sending traffic here. I realised that I had not done this over the summer. So, here is a list that covers 2009 to date. You will note that the major gainers... Read more
