In my email today was the following question “Can you suggest ways of keeping a prayer journal and what its content should be?” It would be most interesting to gather the views of my readers on a subject like this and indeed on prayer in general. What does your prayer life look like? What tips would you like to share? Read more

Aslan Is On the Move on Film says Al: Like many admirers of Lewis’ work, I harbored deep suspicions that the movie would not be faithful to the book. After all, the movie world has robbed and pillaged many of history’s greatest works of literature. Furthermore, given the unmistakable Christian allusions in Lewis’ work, The Chronicles of Narnia would be particularly susceptible to cinematic subversion. Those fears were unfounded. The film is a tour de force, combining faithfulness to Lewis’... Read more

Many many thanks to Justin Taylor who in a private email pointed me to an article by Vern Sheridan Poythress. Although bizzarely titled “Modern Spiritual Gifts as Analogous to Apostolic Gifts: Affirming Extraordinary Works of the Spirit within Cessationist Theology” I found next to nothing in this article that I disagreed with. If this article is cessationism then I am a cessationist. To me though it seems to be firmly on the charismatic side of the fence since the article... Read more

Tim Challies in my comments section was outraged at my claim that cessationism does not rest on a single verse of scripture. I am sorry to be quite so provokative but in however many weeks of asking in public on my blog, not ONE blogger that I am aware of has been able to offer ONE argument that even mentioned a bible verse to support cessationism. Perhaps I have just missed it, but I havent seen any biblical support for... Read more

Challies has brought in the big guns and is interviewing Dr Sam Waldron and Dr Wayne Grudem on the subject of cessationism/charismaticism. Today, Sam Waldron has an interesting argument which is essentially a cascade argument: The people we read in my doctoral program (and at the same time these people that would assume that cessationism was nonsensical and not even discussable) would in almost the same breath admit or assume that Apostles no longer exist in the church today (“big... Read more

Parableman takes issue with my use of the word “Hypocrisy” to describe the IMBs decision to ban only new missionaries from speaking in tongues. I used the word hypocrisy because- Either tongues can be from God or it is dangerous folly Clearly the SBC seem to take the second position here. Therefore it is in my view hypocritical to act inconsistently with that belief. If tongues is wrong, then it is wrong for ALL missionaries, and apparently even some senior... Read more

two or three . net has set up an evangelical blog championship series and has me facing off against the Jollyblogger. Just listen to how he describes me, how can I refuse him a link with flattery like this: “Adrian has been blogging since April 2003. He serves as the Community Administrator for the Blogdom of God. At the forefront of the Christian blogosphere since the beginning, Adrian writes with the thought of a theologian and the skill of a... Read more

In a challenge to us charismatics and pentecostals, Heart, Mind, Soul, and Strength asks “Speaking in Tongues: How Widespread is Faking? “ The fact that there are counterfeits around does not negate the true. For me, I received tongues suddenly and without anyone coaching me. I have however heard of people “coaching” at times. Read more

girl talk:: “So before we rush into our day with lists in hand, let’s humble ourselves. Let?s accept our significant limitations as finite creatures and remember that only God completes His to-do list (humility). Let’s refuse to be self-sufficient today, but instead, in all that we do let’s acknowledge our need for God’s guidance and help (dependence). And of course, let?s serve Him with gladness throughout this day, so that others will see that we serve a ‘good Master’–‘the Son... Read more
