This is probably the best description of what I call the Baptism of the Holy Spirit that I can find. For those (charismatic or otherwise!) who claim to have all that the Holy Spirit has to offer, I issue this as a challenge. Have you experienced a life changing effusion of the Holy Spirit of such intensity as the one described below? If like me you still long for more of the Holy Spirit, perhaps that prayer “More Lord!” is... Read more

Thanks for the many of you that have been helping me to design a new Social Styles in Church questionnaire. I think I have got it pretty much how I like it. If you want to know what the questionnaire means, perhaps if it is not too much trouble you could complete it one more time, and at the end it will tell you a little about what the results mean. Read more

Newton’s Third Law is salivating at the return of the Daleks which will hit the UK screens this Saturday. Surprisingly no one seems to have blogged about the rather poor taste dig at Tony Blair that was made in the last episode. The plot centres around aliens who disguise themselves as politicians and there is a clip as follows- The alien disguised as the Prime Minister: “Our inspectors have searched the sky above our heads and and they have found... Read more

I know this must be annoying for many of you who are no doubt itching to know what your scores mean. I have ammended the questionnaire somewhat and it is now available to take online at Click here to take survey I am afraid that there is still nothing to tell you about the results. Please bear with me on that, as I will be letting you know just as soon as this thing is performing a little better. Any... Read more

Blogotional: has a great post which ends: “So what is my vision for preaching? Just this — it is a tool for my, and every other Christian in the congregation’s, use in their own ministry. Each of us is called to be intimate with another, and through that intimacy the Spirit spreads. Not all of us are gifted at putting voice to the thoughts and ideas that surround that intimacy. That is what great preaching does — it describes and... Read more

Doing the McCheyne reading: today from 2 Tim 2 the phrase “Let no one disregard you.” struck me. The NIV translates this as “despise” and I am sure that most readers would say of course I don’t despise my leaders. But I cant help but feel that the people I discussed yesterday do ignore their leaders. I was asked to define submission, and I would start with not ignoring your leader. If you struggle with accepting your pastor’s teaching, and... Read more

Unveiled Face author Mick Porter describes himself as a “‘lay preacher” and shares how he prepares his sermons with us. Incidently, despite the fact that I have a “secular” job, “lay preacher” is a term that I have always resisted using for myself since I believe that we are all priests so there isnt any such thing as a “non-lay” preacher. Now I have probably opened up a can of worms……. Read more
