I recently blogged through the TULIP acronym and decided it was all about Jesus. I was intrested to notice that Brian Maclaren, who could perhaps fit into my new description “neo-liberals” has totally rewritten the TULIP acronym but still wants to call himself (like a possibly neo-liberal correspondent of mine on email) “Reformed”. I am increasingly convinced that these guys are more than a little confused. I genuinely hope some theoblogging may make a difference to some of them. Read more

Our holiday’s have been interupted by news of one of the world’s worst disasters in recent history. Even though the death toll of the recent earthquate and tsunami are continuing to rise the BBC makes it clear that this is far from the worlds worst catastrophe. That epitaph probably goes to the flood of 1887 when about 900,000 people died when China’s Yellow River burst its banks. Of course, these days we are all so much more connected to these... Read more

Like most bloggers, I intend to do as little blogging as possible in the next few days. Christmas is a time to share with family thats what I intend to do. Even now the family is calling for my assistance. Don’t think that my neo-liberal discussions are over, i will allow some time for them to come up with their best arguments and will look forward to some serious theoblogging in the new year if not sooner. Have a good... Read more

JOLLYBLOGGER has brought together a great collection of posts on the centrality of Christ. I would urge my neo-liberal readers to read them all, and plan to do so myself later today God willing. This Christmas may Christ truly be in the centre of our celebrations Read more

I have coined the phrase neo-liberals as I believe from what I have heard so far that there is a new move to make the church somehow more acceptable to today’s culture. To preach what I might call Christianity lite (as in diet Coke). Christianity with certain baggage dumped conveniently by the side of the road. Interestingly the proponents of this neo-liberalism seem to differ on what they plan to dispose of. Wheter it is disposing of a sovereign all-knowing... Read more

Stuart Murray Williams was a speaker in defence of Steve Chalke before he was censored by the EA. I thought I would read his article and give you the chance to- it is of course only fair having questioned (as has the EA) whether it is possible to take his view of the atonement and still call yourself an evangelical christian. The criticisms Steve Murray levels against classical penal substitutionary theory are all rational arguments rather than biblical expositions. There... Read more

Well, this Christmas the carnival of the reformation has asked us to post about the centrality of Christ the “sola christus”. This is a request I am only too happy to comply with and helps bring a number of threads together that I have been posting on lately. The last thing I posted was a link to our series on the book of acts Any good bible student knows of course that this book should really be called the acts... Read more

This post is predominantly for anyone who in the run up to Christmas does what I just did and trys to google for an old friend. I found his website and dropped him an email. So anyone who actually knows us and stumbles across this site here is my news! Some of this may be of interest to a few of my regular readers, but if not I apologise! The run up to this Christmas seems even busier than usual.... Read more

I have fixed a couple of errors in the links on our current sermon series page which is entitled Audio Sermons on Acts. This is a going to be a major series on the book of Acts. So far we have preached nine sermons and have got to the beginning of chapter five. Unfortunately, I will be slightly late in producing my next post in my series on assurance, but will make sure that it is suitable for submission to... Read more

One thing is for sure Calvinists don’t have the exclusive on doubt about their salvation. An Arminian might well believe he could loose his salvation and therefore worry about how to be sure he didn’t. A Calvinist might worry that he never had it in the first place! In this next series of posts I intend to look at reasons for assurance of salvation- What makes someone a Christian? How can I know I am saved? Can I know I... Read more
