The other night I did something I rarely do these days, I switched on Newsnight on BBC 2. After the first ever UK interview of General Tommy Franks (available on their website) they switched to cover a story about an anonymous writer with the pseudonym ‘Will Cummins’. Because I thought his name was spelt “Will Cummings” I initially struggled to find much in google about all this. The story is an interesting one though, not taken up much by blogs... Read more

It is great to relax, unwind, and do as little as possible. Yes, that is an option with four children. The beach has a lot going for it. Of course, we Brits are funny about the beach. I guess we’d go even if it was raining. But with the addition of some wetsuits even swiming in the sea is not out of the question here in ‘sunny’ Devon! We could have travelled to the med for the same price or... Read more

Today we talk a lot about human rights and almost nothing about responsibilities. Whatever people might feel about the rights and wrongs of the invasion of Iraq the soldiers must surely amaze us. How in this modern society of me and my needs do the find it in themselves to put their very lives on the line? Jesus showed us the way when he was tempted. Asked by the devil to manipulate material things to meet his needs, he declared... Read more

Well, here I am sitting in my car next about 2 metres from the sea. I have been left with two sleeping kids to enjoy my music (Daniel Bedingfield) with the windows open and the sounds and smell of the sea lapping around me. Suddenly its all worth it- the late nights at work to ‘clear the decks’ the packing (OK so my ever patient wife did most of that!), the being wrestled out of bed at a ridiculous hour... Read more

What If I Stumble blog has proven yet again one of my strongest assertions about blogging. It seems to be an imutable fact that the most reliable way to get mentioned on someone elses blog is to be nice about them on your own blog. I will close this post with the quote in question which was a follow up to the ‘Adrian Warnock is my Blogfather’ quote. Now there could be lots of reasons for this. Is it so... Read more

Its funny how influenced by blogs google is. I mentioned the work we do with Middlesex university on this blog and linked to my church and suddenly my home church is in the top three at google for ‘middlesex church’. Meanwhile a large Brighton church called CCK comes well below our own church page even if you search for ‘Brighton newfrontiers church’. I wonder if this post will change that…..? Bloggers often fail to realise the power that they have... Read more

I have been criticised for linking to Dan’s historical irony. Apparently the post is ‘Anti-American’. Just to say to begin with, a link to a post on this site doesnt mean I necessarily agree with the post just that I find it interesting. To me the whole point of blogging is to interact with those who hold different views. It is vital that we all understand each other. For me, I am not at all anti-American. I am intreged though... Read more

A reader asked “How can you be a christian and a psychiatrist? Does the methodology and beliefs of psychiatry not conflict with those of being a christian for you?” Psychiatry often gets a bad press these days. Sometimes its the failure of services to prevent a suicide or even a murder. Sometimes its about psychiatrists trying to ‘medicalise’ bad behaviour and straying away from their territory. Sometimes the accusation is the opposite- that they are refusing to treat someone who... Read more

Came across a great website The Calvinist Corner which even has “a list of Reformed Churches and or people that believe in the Charismatic Gifts”. Pop over read his stuff, and tell him you found out about his site on a blog and he needs to add one to his site! Seriously, his material is great- maybe he’d make a good blogger. I have missed my blog lately- but business has prevented me from giving it much attention. I am... Read more
