This month I am joining a sponsored mustache growing campaign, called Movember. At the start of the month you are meant to be clean shaven. As you can see if you look really carefully at the photo below, I do indeed have the beginnings of a mustache gracing my uper lip today on day 7!  The campaign is in aid of charity, and I am doing it in memory of my Father-in-Law who this time just a year ago was noticing... Read more

With the American Election just tomorrow now, I think that Warrens words, quoted in a helpful post from Frank Viola entitled, “20 Reasons Why the Christian Right & the Christian Left Won’t Adopt Me” are well worth reading and considering carefully (along with the rest of Viola’s interesting post). This notion of “disagreeing agreeably” lies behind my post on inter-faith and intra-faith dialogue. Whether we are talking doctrine or politics we must learn to be polite to each other at... Read more

A friend of mine has made a free copy of his book ‘Unforgettable’ on Kindle: http://amzn.to/QNKSRg His goal in making it available is to encourage church planters to consider using it as a gift to first time visitors of the church. It is an engaging read, and I offer it to you to download and peruse. It struck me that many of you may already have a book that you give out to visitors. Or indeed to those who either... Read more

I have had a long-standing relationship with Logos Bible Software, version 5 of which has just been released. It is something I have spent a lot of money on over many years, but the benefits of it have been incredibly worthwhile. I am able to offer a 15% discount to new Logos users. Simply click one of the links or the image in my sidebar and ensure WARNOCK5 is listed as coupon when you check out. Note that the discounted price... Read more

I’ve been listening to a really good song part-written by an old blogging friend of mine. Its all about surrendering our wills to a higher cause, that of Christ and his plans for us. You can buy the song on iTunes or read the lyrics here: YOUR WILL (as recorded by Saint Lewis) (c.)2011 – Lewis, Durbin, Gilles, & Tucker I’m leaving my ambitions – I’ve given up my dreams Surrendered to the plans You laid for me I’m waiting... Read more

I wish you all a Happy Reformation day. This video below from John Piper explains why almost 500 years later Evangelicals should still grateful to God for the Reformation, and very much recognize ourselves as heir of that move of God. Much as I love my Catholic friends, and as much as they have indeed themselves reformed (especially since Vatican II) I am very much a Protestant. To me, the Reformation very much lies at the heart of the Evangelical... Read more

I cannot vote in the American elections because I am not American. But if I could, I would. I will not offer a reason to vote for any specific candidate in this post, but  felt I needed to urge those who can vote to do so!  This was prompted by hearing of some who think Christians shouldn’t vote at all  and even worse a strange movement exists which has somehow persuaded 1.4 million to pledge to spoil ballot papers by adding Jesus as a write-in candidate.... Read more

Spoiler alert! This post contains a fair bit of information about the plot. If you haven’t yet seen the film, and want to be surprised, stop reading now! The summary of this post that this is in one sense a stereotypical Bond movie, and you will by now know what to expect, no doubt. If you like Bond, then I recommend this film. If you don’t then it is not sufficiently different to draw you in. As usual in the last... Read more

“Let us press on to know the LORD; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” (Hosea 6:3) It’s not enough to know about him. It’s not enough to live an outwardly holy life that’s good enough to con most people. That hunger in our hearts is a longing for communion with Him. Lets pursue his presence. Looking for songs to help you? The... Read more

I think that sometimes in our eagerness to debate we forget just how much we actually agree on. I really liked this post from Frank Viola here at Patheos Evangelical. I agreed with every word of the whole post. In the spirit of Mary Magdalene — the first woman to set eyes on the resurrected Christ – women are free to testify to the good news of Jesus and His resurrection. In the spirit of Mary – the mother of... Read more
