Prayer can look very different from religion to religion and person to person. It seems a lot in discussions of where ‘woo’ belongs in the community and in our practices that a dichotomy is presented: either a) we believe in spirits and gods literally and entirely or b) we don’t believe in them at all. Binaries can be frustrating and erasing and leave most people stranded somewhere in the middle, though, so I’m going to attempt to post a more varied approach to woo, spirits, and such. Read more

Prayer can benefit the gods by keeping them in touch with us, establishing communication and connection, creating a conversation. I believe the gods can care about us (but not all gods do so by default), and that by inviting them into our lives by praying to them we are benefiting them. Read more
As part of my work with the Four Gods, I write new stories (myths) for Them and the various spirits associated and connected to Them. Sometimes these stories come to me in dreams; other times, I simply have the seed of an idea and spiral it forth. Read more
Praying aloud is an important part of polytheistic practice, or at least one that places the gods outside of ourselves. Since our gods are not omniscient or omnipotent we can’t expect them to read our minds when we wish to talk to them. We, ourselves, need to reach out with our voices. Read more
Prayer is a complicated topic in modern Pagandom. Quite a few people I’ve known detest the idea of praying (or worshiping), and many more believe that formalized prayer rather than spontaneous outbursts is bad or not as ‘spiritual’.
