See You In The Fall

See You In The Fall September 6, 2022

As a writer, sometimes I don’t know what to say. I know that sounds fantastically contradictory, but it’s true. Over the past 7 years, I’ve said so much that I’ve landed at a place where I just don’t know what else to write about.

Does that mean I’m going to stop writing? Of course not! I have 5 books in the works, cohost 2 podcasts, and still plan on keeping this blog up and running. But right now, I’m sort of at a loss.

Perhaps it’s because I’ve published hundreds of articles. Perhaps it’s because I’ve given up on the institution called Christianity. Perhaps it’s a little of both. But whatever the ultimate reason, I feel sort of stuck.

And that’s okay. Writers don’t always need to be writing. Creativity will come again, so I’m not particularly worried about it. The break has been kind of nice, actually. It’s given me time to focus on other projects like audio editing and book designing and proofreading – a more technical contribution to content but needed nonetheless.

As for this blog? I’m sure in the near future I’ll be more active. I’ve still got that satirical itch, so there’s always that. But the world has gotten so wonky that even satire is losing its edge. I mean, where can satire fit into a world with Marjorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, Donald Trump, Lauren Boebert, Don Jr., Madison Cawthorn, Dr. Oz, Herschel Walker, and others? I’m sure I’ll find a place, but it’s difficult.

Then there’s theology, which is what I’ve spent the bulk of my time on here writing about. But even that has lost its luster. Y’all know where I stand on the Bible, the afterlife, hermeneutics, atonement, violence, sexuality, prayer, eschatology, soteriology, and all the other -ologies. What more is there to say?

Again, I’m sure I’ll find something, but now is not the time. Maybe some creativity will come in October, or perhaps November. I can see it off in the distance; I just can’t tell how long it will take for it to arrive, and I’m okay with that.

In the meantime, be kind to one another out there. I know some of you who read this blog are emphatically NOT kind (like the numerous people I’ve shadow banned). But to the rest of you: remember to do something kind for someone, go out of your way to be helpful, look out for your fellow human, and don’t forget to laugh.

Cheers, and I’ll see you in the fall.
