Christians Who “Love Jesus but Not the Church”

Contrary to popular belief, the church dying off does not bring me joy.

What I found to be sad about this research was how, seemingly, indifferent millennials (my generation) are towards religion [particularly the institutionalized western version of Christianity]. Personally, I oscillate in and out of my willingness to be in this “swamp” of an institution we call Christendom.

Never has my love for those within this demographic (for lack of better words) swerved.

Although, it’s fair to say the Church, to me, has been like a dysfunctional family member you love but unfortunately had to part ways with.

You can’t force them to change; as much as you want to save them from their own demise… there’s a point in which you have to accept the fact that unconditionally loving them from a distance is the best you can do; or, in the words of Tyrion Lannister:

“Sometimes nothing is the hardest thing to do…”

It’s as if we’ve become so far jaded by our experiences of “church” that we’d rather be alone than a part of this institutionalized form of community.

It’s deeper than just an institution dying. Regardless of how far “businified” the narcissist has made our church into, for many of us, it remains personal. One is not mourning the loss of money, buildings, or “treasure,” if you will… we’re mourning the lost possibilities of how many individual lives won’t be changed because of our churches [apparent] inevitable demise.

What are yall’s thoughts? Where is the future of our “institutionalized/westernized Christianity”? Is progressive Christianity majorly missing the mark? If so, then what changes would need to be enacted within the “progressive” church in order to hit the mark?
