I’ve ignored the “topic of homosexuality” most of my life. I chose to ignore it because I didn’t really see Jesus speak about it much in the New Testament. Though I do see Jesus speaking towards loving the marginalized, ostracized, and anyone else who has been rejected by the religious. I can’t ignore the fact that, for some reason or another, the church has chosen to marginalize those within the LGBT community. Since I started posting and writing on this... Read more

I’ve come to find that winning a debate isn’t so much about who’s more “right” but rather who has better rhetoric. Last night during the debate, I think it was pretty clear that, although Ham had a couple good points, he was neither more “right” nor did he have better rhetoric. Though he did make a valiant effort to win by creating some “alternate reality” in which natural law, empirical scientific evidence, and reasonable logic don’t exist… (more…) Read more

When I heard that they were remaking Left Behind, replacing Kirk Cameron with Nic Cage, I thought it was joke and brushed it off. Then someone on Facebook posted a poster of the movie, that I assumed was photoshopped… But it’s true, as much as we don’t want it to be. It’s on Cage’s IMDB, there’s a Facebook page, billboard in NYC, and now there’s a clip from the movie… yup. Here ya go: Don’t lie – how many of... Read more

It feels almost as if the media is lobbing the church pitches to either (a) knock out of the park or (b) embarrassingly swing as hard as we can and strike out, only to publicly humiliate ourselves. So far, evangelicalism has chosen the latter. Its things like this whole Duck Dynasty travesty, and last year’s Chik-Fil-A debacle that make me think we have not only missed an opportunity to love, but rather taken the opportunity to wrongly portray the Gospel. What... Read more

“A person of good intelligence and sensitivity cannot exist in this society very long without having some anger about the inequality – and it’s not just a bleeding-heart, knee-jerk, liberal kind of a thing – it is just a normal human reaction to a nonsensical set of values where we have cinnamon flavored dental floss and there are people sleeping in the street.” -George Carlin Read more

My entire life Christianity felt wrong to me. I was too young to pin point what exactly it was that made it feel so, not right. It’s not only that Christiainity seemed to go against my human nature in a repressive manner. It was that Christianity simply did not sound like it was good news to me, or anyone else for that matter. It didn’t feel like “freedom,” rather it felt more like enslavement. Everything I did as a Christian,... Read more

Photo credit to labirdiephotography.com A friend once told me I say the phrase “it’s ok” a lot. As a person who communicates for a living, I can’t say I’m proud that “it’s ok” is my catchphrase of sorts, but it fits so perfectly, and describes so eloquently how to handle big changes in your life. Just when you think life will always be one way, it changes abruptly, without welcome. (more…) Read more

Just to be clear, Jesus was not a white man. I thought up until tonight, no one legitimately believed anymore that Jesus was white. That is until news anchor Megyn Kelly said, in response to an article on Slate.com written by Aisha Harris: (more…) Read more

Have we taken social media way too far? “#SmackCamming” police, exploding fireworks in your butt, setting yourself on fire… Leads me to say yes. The craving for attention and to build one’s own kingdom/empire is still there. Since the explosion of vine, we’ve seen it slowly but steadily dissipate into people willing to do anything that will make them “Vine Famous”. I’m not going to lie, it’s entertaining as hell, but the question remains have we taken social media too far?... Read more
