5. You will see that your kids are thankful for you and your efforts…eventually.
Gaines recognizes that motherhood can be a frustrating and difficult journey at times, but she encourages mothers to resist discouragement. She reminds us that we don’t get a lot of “instant gratification” from our kids while we are raising them at home. Most kids aren’t quick to thank us or let us know that something we said really resonated with them. I love the phrase, “The days are LONG, but the years are SHORT,” and this definitely rings true with this reminder from Gaines. Our kids grow up in the blink of an eye. So, it’s important that we keep it all in perspective and try to not sweat the small stuff.
One day, we’ll look up and realize that somewhere along the way our little kid grew up. And, well see the thankfulness in their eyes, and we might even hear a sweet, “Thanks, Mom.” But until then, let’s cherish the special season of motherhood that we’re in–one day at a time.
