3 Reasons Why I’m Writing at Patheos

3 Reasons Why I’m Writing at Patheos 2015-02-19T17:54:02-05:00

patheosThanks to Patheos Evangelical’s Bart Gingerich (Managing Editor) and Samuel James (writer), this is my first post as a writer at Patheos.

Having a blog hosted in the same channel as studs like Michael Bird, Peter Enns, Scot McKnight, Thomas Kidd, Preston Sprinkle, Ben Witherington, and Owen Strachan makes me feel as out of place as Taylor Swift discussing sports. And yet, here I am.

To start this thing off, here are the three main reasons I decided to join Patheos:

1. Peter Enns, Owen Strachan, PEG, The Friendly Atheist, and More

“A progressive evangelical, a Southern Baptist, a Catholic, and an atheist walk into a bar mitzvah” sound likes the setup line to an excellent theology nerd joke. Patheos is leading the way in providing a one-stop shop of thoughtful inter-religious conversation. For years, I’ve found myself reading articles on Patheos almost daily, because some of my favorite, diverse writers are hosted here. I regularly learn something new about the broader faith dialogue when I visit this site.

The added bonus for me? It’s not every day you get the opportunity to speak about the goodness of the good news into such a diverse community and reader base whenever you want. I have that chance, and I am excited to join the conversation.

2. Bart Gingerich

As I mentioned at the front, Bart Gingerich is a big reason why I decided to write at Patheos. His vision for the channel and passion for the gospel sold me in the first conversation. He’s the real deal.

3. I Love Writing

I’m a writer. Like, I once got paid $2.99 + shipping and handling to write an article. That makes me official. And official writers get on über-popular websites to do it.

But seriously, even if only my mom reads my stuff, Patheos is kind to give me space (and freedom) to do so. I pray that my writing will be a mixture of helpfulness, winsomeness, thought provocation, and God glorification.
