Recently, I was just looking for something online at Nordstrom and the brand “Marchesa” came up… This is a brand I’ve definitely heard of before.
That’s when I realized it is the fashion line of Harvey Weinstein wife (soon-to-be ex-wife) Georgina Chapman. They were married ten years ago, which — coincidentally — is the same time she launched her new designer brand. Now that over thirty women have accused Weinstein of terrible behavior related to the “casting couch,” she’s filed for divorce.
Nordstrom is one of my favorite stores ever, but I hated it when they dropped Ivanka Trump’s brand after her dad was elected President of the United States. How ironic that they are perfectly fine with Harvey Weinstein wife’s brand?
You can’t tell me she had no idea about his shenanigans. If all of Hollywood knew that Harvey Weinstein was a creep — and maybe a rapist — then his wife almost definitely knew.
According to the Daily Mail, a fashion publicist told the New York Post ‘everyone is trying to leave’ and Helzberg Diamonds cancelled a collaboration with the line that would’ve launched soon. Also, some brides are deciding that they don’t want their brand tainted with the weirdness that is the Weinstein dynasty:
Wedding stylist Diane Lloyd Roth said ‘I tell my brides to bring [pages] from magazines, and [Marchesa is] always included. [Some clients] were going to go look at Marchesa … and now they’re getting cold feet,’ she said.
‘They don’t want the association. The first question when someone’s getting married is, ‘Who are you wearing?’
I totally understand. It’s fine if brides decide against the brand. But what I’m wondering is whether Nordstroms will actually make the same stance against Chapman as they did against Ivanka Trump?
And, if not, are they perfectly okay with Weinstein’s behavior? Or do they only take “principled stands” against Republicans?
