Sometimes I find individuals who express ideas I believe in, in ways that I wish I could express myself. I want to share these profound thoughts with others because they are adequately saying something important that will benefit others and I wish I had written myself. I can’t plagiarize and pass their thoughts off as my own and sometimes it is time consuming to reword things that were already written well. Fortunately for me sometimes these individuals will allow me to share their thoughts.
Online personality Tami Linn West has written a wonderful informative piece about why Trump’s immigration task force ICE is being protested by a distinct group of individuals. Listen and read so you may understand why someone might disagree with the way the current administration is dealing with immigration and why it is so problematic to so many people. You may disagree but perhaps you will know where they are coming from.
I was responding to a FB friend this morning & realized that Republicans don’t seem to have a clue what we disagree with concerning undocumented immigrants & deportations. They seem to be missing the point of our protests altogether.
We’re not advocating for open borders, we never have been.
We’re not advocating for “illegal criminal immigrants” to stay in the country. NO ONE wants that.
We’re advocating for humane treatment of EVERYONE including undocumented immigrants.
We’re advocating for immigrants who are here legally, those with protected status & those in the asylum & citizenship process doing what our courts have asked of them, who are being abducted from their court-mandated immigration check-ins, or having their asylum claims arbitrarily dismissed just so ICE can deport them.
We’re advocating for immigrants who are being brutally rounded up, imprisoned in inhumane conditions & without due process & deported without a court order.
We’re advocating for our citizens who are being terrorized, & often detained or murdered for the “crime” of driving through their own neighborhoods or observing, documenting or protesting ICE’s inhumane treatment of immigrants.
We’re advocating against Stephen Miller, Kristi Noem, the attorney general, the vice president & the president reacting to ICE’s murder of US citizens & immigrants by vilifying the victims & defending the perpetrators before any investigation has taken place & the crime scene desecration by ICE agents who act as if any amount of force is just part of the job.
We’re advocating for ICE to stop operating illegally, breaking into & dragging people from their cars & homes without judicial warrants.
We’re advocating for US citizens & immigrants who are being racially profiled & detained by roving gangs of ICE agents for the “crime” of having the wrong skin color or speaking a foreign language.
We’re advocating for children who are being imprisoned in deplorable conditions for months on end without due process.
We’re advocating for a reasonable path to citizenship for those who are contributing members of our society, working & paying taxes, often doing jobs our citizens will not do.
We’re advocating for ICE to be maskless with clearly visible identification & body cameras that have been DHS policy from the beginning but ignored by ICE leadership.
We’re advocating for independent investigations (not by DHS) of ICE agents shooting into cars, drawing weapons & using chemical weapons on protesters, using unnecessary brutality & murdering immigrants & citizens bc they’re pissed that people are protesting their inhumane methods or bc they may not comply with ICE orders fast enough.
We’re advocating against Stephen Miller’s white supremacist agenda of creating a white America & his unreasonable & arbitrary quota of 3,000 abductions a day that are the justification for ICE’s tactic of rounding up anyone with brown or black skin with the idea that they will sort them out later.
We’re advocating against a president who is using ICE as his personal Gestapo to exact retribution on cities & states that didn’t vote for him & mayors & governors he sees as his enemies, not cities & states with the most undocumented immigrants.
If you think we don’t want criminal undocumented immigrants to be deported, you’re being intentionally obtuse.
We just know that the narrative the president & his administration are advancing, that ICE is simply rounding up & deporting “the worst of the worst,” “illegal immigrant rapists & murderers” & “illegal criminal immigrants,” is a lie & that 73% of immigrants being deported have NO criminal record at all & many of the ones with criminal records are not for violent crimes.
We’re advocating for the truth, the constitution & the rule of law.
We’re advocating for an America we can be proud of again, not an authoritarian state.
