Most of the authors we will meet in this series are just writers. Alison is one of the few individuals who is also actually a publisher as well as a writer. She works hard to make other authors dreams of being a published writer come true. She also has her own series of books for people to read. It is now time to

Alison Ramirez

1. Tell something interesting about yourself.

I am a Catholic indie author of six books and a small business owner of Trinity Tree Publishing, a small business dedicated to helping Christian authors write, edit, and self-publish their faith-based books.

2. What makes a good Catholic writer?

Good Catholic writers are concerned first and foremost with working as co-creators with Christ, inviting Him into the creative process every step of the way as they work to bring about more true, good, and beautiful books into the world.

3. What do you like about being a Catholic/Christian Writer?

I love the self-discovery of writing, and of being able to work biblical and sacramental themes into my fiction through the setting and lives of the characters.

4. What is the Main focus of your particular Writing or what do you like to write about?

I am currently a writer of fiction and nonfiction. My prayer devotional series is titled Rosary Invitations, and the fourth and final book was just released this month. I’m also working on finishing the third and final book in my sci-fi/dystopian trilogy, The Divided Kingdom.

“In Blossom as Saints, Allison’s thoughtful devotional invites us to approach the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary with awe and wonder. Beautifully written, her approach helps and encourages us to unite with Mary our mother in a greater love for Jesus Christ.” —Mary Saltzmann, author of the Rosary Reflections series

5. How does your Catholic Faith influence your writing?

I love writing overtly about the faith in my fiction series, be that in the character names, the significance of numbers, or conversations surrounding good and evil. As the series progresses, the characters become bolder in their faith, but I love exploring faith as a small seed and having it mature along with the characters.

6. What’s your favorite article/Post/book/story you have written?

The Divided Kingdom series, as I started writing book one in the 8th grade, and the characters are very near and dear to my heart.

Adeline drew in a tentative breath as the late-afternoon wind settled over her face, revitalizing her skin from the moment it kissed her flushed cheeks. She could feel its strength as it breezed through her clothes and hair. Inhabiting a life of its own, the wind drifted, pressing gently at her back, encouraging her to approach the dividing wall separating the city from the suburbs. She swallowed before taking a few more steps across the hard asphalt. There were no trees or floral life of any kind to be seen as she halted before the massive wall on the city side. She didn’t glance behind her at the tall steel buildings in the distance, staple markers of the city. Instead, her gaze climbed the smooth concrete wall before her, the full height reaching well above her head and spanning for miles in either direction. She had made sure to be standing not just before the wall itself, but the gate leading through—the only entry and exit point in the city.

7. What is your favorite topic/subject to write about?

Lately, I’ve been writing about the intersection of faith and science, as characters wrestle with the moral implications of futuristic medical/tech advances.

8, Favorite scripture verse.

My favorite scripture verse is: Romans 12:2 “Do not conform yourselves to this age, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, so that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good, pleasing, and perfect.”

9. What Are you currently working on?

I am currently working on The Return, the third and final book in my fiction trilogy.

10. Name a favorite saint or Catholic or some other figure who inspires you in your life.

I love St. Theresa of Avila, and she is my chosen patron saint for writing.

I am also very inspired by St. Therese of Lisieux. Both these Carmelite saints inspired my own discernment towards becoming a lay Carmelite.

EDITOR NOTE: My wife Kristin (The Carmelite) is also a lay Carmelite.

Right now, the spiritual writings of Servant of God Elizabeth Leseur, a married woman in the early 1900s from France, have been very helpful to me in my faith.

11. Who is your favorite Living Writer?

Since discovering her Light series in 2020, Catholic sci/fi dystopian author Jaqueline Brown has been a favorite writer of mine. She is so talented!

12. If you could have lunch with any deceased writer who would it be, what would you eat and what would you talk about?

That’s a hard one! I think Flannery O’Connor or the Apostle John. I’d love to hear what it was like to be inspired by the Holy Spirit to write Scripture.

13. Name a favorite movie/tv show or music you find worth sharing with others.

Right now, I have been writing When Calls the Heart, a TV series that reminds me a lot of Little House on the Prairie. The wholesome themes, as well as resilience in faith during hard times, have kept me watching up to Season 14.

14. Can you see one of your books being made into a movie or tv series?

Yes, I could definitely see The Divided Kingdom series turned into a movie. It would be similar to the Hunger Games (but with a biblical worldview to the series).

15. Favorite Historical event.

A favorite historical event would have to be the resurrection of Our Lord!

If reciting all of the Rosary mysteries could be placed into one day, the Joyful Mysteries would be the sweet sunrise: the opening of eyes and the swinging of feet into slippers, inviting us into hope and optimism for the day ahead. The Luminous Mysteries would be the afternoon: the movement of working to accomplish all that is before us. The Sorrowful Mysteries would be the darkening of the evening: the fatigue and tiredness from a long day’s work setting in as daylight wanes and night descends. The Glorious Mysteries would be lying down in bed, comfortable and consoled for falling asleep into dreams, to wake again and emerge into the joyous morning once more. And through every mystery and moment of our days, peaceful or stressful, Jesus and Mary are with us. –October & The Rosary Meets Therese of Lisieux and the Carmelites

The beauty of self-publishing is that there is room for growth and flexibility; even after you publish your book, you can go back in and make changes, update the cover, and even publish a second or limited edition if you decide you need to make substantial changes. Now, I’m not saying this should be a free pass to publish books that are not ready to be published, but what I am saying is that this fear of finality can be alleviated with the knowledge that there is a certain adaptability within self-publishing that is not so often found in traditional publishing. –Beginning Again as an Indie Author – by Allison Ramirez
