Everyday busy Catholic writers are typing words that they hope others will read, savor and devour. I like to browse these thoughts, pick out some nice tidbits, tie them up together in a blog article with a big bright bow and distribute them for others to gaze upon and reflect upon. In the first few weeks of December and Advent, here is what Catholics are Writing Right Now. Glance through and maybe you will read or watch something that sticks... Read more

While I was at work on Sunday November 27, 2022, I was informed while having a conversation with my wife on the phone, that my in-laws had tested positive for Covid.  When  I came home from work I took one of those Covid home tests from CVS and it came out positive. I took it twice just to make sure. It was positive twice. That meant a mandatory vacation from my work. This meant an opportunity to pray, read, and... Read more

Sacrifice and love are constant universal themes that make a story worth watching and thinking about. There is a scene in Disney’s Wreck-It-Ralph when Ralph makes a sacrifice near the end of the film that saves the cute little Vanellope von Schweetz from blipping out of existence of her cyber reality inside a video game. It was a touching moment that made me tear up due to Ralph’s display of selflessness and sacrifice. It was a moment that my daughter... Read more

Scrolling through social media, one can find wisdom and thoughts worth sharing with others. Here is a series of Tweets from the Pastorate at Cathedral of the Rockies – Amity Campus. It is an ecumentical Christian advent messege that cuts through all the political thoughts prevailing all Christians on social media. Again these thoughts are not mine but that of Rev. Benjamin Cremer.  “As we Christians approach Christmas this Advent, may we remember all the ways Jesus could have come... Read more

When most people hear of Catholic television their minds immediately go to the TV network started by Mother Angelica in 1980. But if you live in New England you might just think of the TV network started in 1955 that became  Boston Catholic TV and is now known as just CatholicTV. I went to Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2005 with the hopes of getting more educated in a field that would lead me out of the mundane ordinary jobs... Read more

More history to ruin your Thanksgiving spirit: There were no sweet potatoes (not native to North America), cranberry sauce (no sugar available), or pumpkin pies (no butter or flour around for the crusts) either. So what was on the menu besides herons? Probably fish, eel, and perhaps a few garden vegetables like collard greens, parsnips, and turnips. The setting wasn’t conducive to a fancy feast either. Tables and chairs were scarce. The Pilgrims probably didn’t have knives, or even forks,... Read more

It’s 2:30 AM when I am starting to write this blog post. I want to be in bed asleep. But my insomnia won’t let me sleep now. My body wants me to sleep when I am supposed to be alive, awake, alert and enthusiastic at 2:30 in the afternoon. I’ll be at work then. My lack of sleep causes me lack of energy. My lack of energy causes me to allow things to build up around my condo such as... Read more

Looking around social media and reading the various comments from different personalities in religious sections, it would be easy to conclude that Catholicism is not one united front with unified belief in all things Catholic. For example, in Catholic theology we believe in the primacy of  Peter and that the Pope is God’s vicar on earth. But you can’t get a uninformed consent from all Catholics on who is actually pope. You get the sedevacantists who claim that 1958 was... Read more

Are you a guy who is single, board and alone? That’s probably because your a wimpy pansy girly man and repel women like Italians repel pineapple on pizza. Or you could be just a celibate who has decided to join a monastery with a bunch of other guys wearing a cool medieval robe, basking in silence and chanting emmmm all day long. If your in a real cool monastery you might just learn some ancient secret form of martial arts.... Read more

There was a time in my life I got super excited about things. My emotions would well up and spill out of my heart into the physical reality of life on the outside of my soul. For some reason or other I often feel numb or blank when I experience exhilarating fun things nowadays. I tend to dwell on the imperfection of the event I have partaken of. Writing this blog post was sort of frustrating for my computer wasn’t... Read more
